Doha’s skyline is ever changing. Fifteen years ago there was almost nothing here in this West Bay area of Doha. Two thirds of these buildings have gone up since I arrived here in 2007. It’s fascinating to watch a city and country grow the way Doha, Qatar is

Surely you see the difference between building a dozen retractable roof stadiums and high rises being built for profit, right? I'm assuming those buildings have offices and people and stuff in them and the businesses using them lease the space.

They have a population that is less than Utahs. I'm am certain they are building them because they want too, not because of the lack of available desert. My understanding is that Qatar wants to pull professional people in from around the globe. So they build ****.

The UAE has certainly set off a building arms race in that area of the world. I believe I read recently that Suadi Arabia is going to build the tallest building in the world now in Bin Laden's old stomping grounds - Jeddah.

I think they all a little paranoid about their energy status dwindling so they've got to get more diverse economies going as best they can even if they are overbuilding for the time being.
