Better to Start - Ingles or Hood?

Its only his 3rd year so he is still developing that consistency... and he's had a few interruptions this year already so that doesn't help.

He does go cold from 3 but his mid range jumper is exceptional, especially when he gets into the lane. I think its Quin's instructions/system that has him shooting so many 3's, Quin hates it when they turn an open look down, just let it fly.

I also think he has been focusing on his defense a lot more this year, I think he has been much better and can see him focusing in on D during the game.

Either way IMO if Ingles isn't wide open there is a fair chance it isn't going in. Whereas Hood can create his own shot and knock them down with a hand in his face. At the pointy end of the season i'll be hoping for a WET Rodney Hood over the D/bball IQ Joe brings.

its a tough call. i think Ingles fits better, because hayward and hill both need shots. i think when all 3 of Hood Hill Hayward play, you sometimes see Gordon taking like 2 or 3 shots in the 1st. the 1st quarter is where Gordon usually plays 10+ minutes, he needs at least 5-7 shots in that first period, he's the engine that drives us. splitting touches in our slow offense between 3 guys who all need to shoot ends up taking away from our best playmaker.

Anyway, statistically, hood has been worse than ingles BOTH offensively (0.6 oWS vs 1.5 WS, 0.1 OBPM vs 1.5 OBPM) and defensively (1.3 dWS vs 1.5dWS, -0.8 DBPM vs 1.7 DBPM). Ingles is my tentative pick.

Maybe it's the homer in me but if Ingles keeps this up, does he get consideration for 6th man?

And to answer the question, obviously if I'm asking about Ingles being the 6th man, I feel Hood should start. What really should matter is who's out there at the end of the game. I think both have things to offer depending on the situation and matchups.

I think this is a very good question that should remain open, for now. Ingles seems to fit perfectly. He's a smarter and more physical team defender, which really helps Hay and Hill, I think. Plus, Rod's playmaking has backslid this year a bit (he can get serious tunnel vision), and Joe more than makes up for that.

And it's not like our bench has been setting the world on fire (injuries, yes). I think Burks + Hood + Johnson could be an excellent combination of offensive prowess.

They both have a place in the system. Ingles is a great playmaker. Hood is a great scorer. Ingles has great chemistry with Gordon. He makes Gordon much more effective. With Burks back, the Jazz have another weapon, along with JJ. We also have another good playmaker in Boris. It's almost an embarrassment of riches. It's now Quin's job to figure how to best use them all.

It's strangely a good question & I don't think anyone saw this coming.

I think the franchise will elect with Hood starting but being benched very early in order to have lots of run with the 2nd and fourth quarters, with Ingles taking the lion's share of starter's minutes. That might be best for the managing of team egos. Ingles needs to keep letting the threes fly though

Hood would be the perfect Manu/OKC-era Harden for this team but he isn't on their level in terms of passing

I lean towards Hood. But for all of Hood's ability to create for himself, Ingles has the ability to create for others. I wonder if Hood would be more comfortable with more touches with the 2nd Unit.

I'd do as somebody else pointed out, start Hood and make him the first guy out. That way he can re-enter with Burks and help lead the 2nd unit.

The change I'd like to see is stop force feeding a backup PG. I think Burks, Ingles, Hood, and Hayward can all help in not needing more than a few minutes from a backup PG. Right now the only PG on the roster that is one of our top 10 players is Hill.

Good post. I especially like the part about ingles starting probably means more shots early for hayward..... which is a good thing and should be happening.

With Burks back, and when Hood returns we need to go with the triple wing offense. It's a better option then running out Mack or Neto.

Side question. Has Neto hit even one three since he was promoted over Mack??

Start with Hood and based on the play of the starting five you sub Ingles in around the 6 minute mark or so. If Hood is playing well maybe you leave him in there 3-4 more minutes. Go with the hot hand.

Hood is not great scorer, he's a good shooter who can't manufacture points when his shot is off.

I think with the emergence of Rudy as an offensive force and the emergence of Ingles as a defensive force, you have to take a long look at putting Slo-Mo Joe in the starting 5. His minutes should remain the same - he should just start the first, third and, depending on the game situation, finish most games.
