Better to Start - Ingles or Hood?

With Burks back, and when Hood returns we need to go with the triple wing offense. It's a better option then running out Mack or Neto.

Side question. Has Neto hit even one three since he was promoted over Mack??

Start with Hood and based on the play of the starting five you sub Ingles in around the 6 minute mark or so. If Hood is playing well maybe you leave him in there 3-4 more minutes. Go with the hot hand.

They both have a place in the system. Ingles is a great playmaker. Hood is a great scorer. Ingles has great chemistry with Gordon. He makes Gordon much more effective. With Burks back, the Jazz have another weapon, along with JJ. We also have another good playmaker in Boris. It's almost an embarrassment of riches. It's now Quin's job to figure how to best use them all.

Hood is not great scorer, he's a good shooter who can't manufacture points when his shot is off.

I think with the emergence of Rudy as an offensive force and the emergence of Ingles as a defensive force, you have to take a long look at putting Slo-Mo Joe in the starting 5. His minutes should remain the same - he should just start the first, third and, depending on the game situation, finish most games.

This is a good 'problem' to have. Ingles is more consistent than Hood. If we keep winning with Hood starting then change nothing. But if we begin having problems start Ingles as the guy seems to disrupt more and make the plays needed to win (that doesn't always show up in the box score).

i liked what you posted pre edit about hood, burks and jj maybe not working. We need more ingles'z so we can have one in the lineup at all times to be that glue dude who doesn't need lots of shots, plays good defense and passes well to make all lineups better.

Hood starts now that Burks is back and can lead the second unit scoring. Personally I would be getting Hood a few early looks in the hope he is having one of those games where he can't miss, which then opens up the floor for his team mates. But if there not falling then sub Ingles in early and have the ball flowing on offense, whilst trying to get Hayward some plays such as back door cut alley oop they have going. Essentially Hood has the ability to get us of to a super hot start, whereas Joe can be more reliable and get the offense flowing if we come out slow.

After reading these comments I'm loving these ideas/observations...

1) Ingles starting allows us to run offense through Hayward/Favors/Hill (I'd like Hayward to have 15 attempts per game)

2) The thought of Hood/Burks running the 2nd unit... WOW! Hood and JJ get their mismatches and could score with ease. While Burks can just attack the rim at will, get opponents in foul trouble and look to kick to Hood, JJ, Lyles waiting at the 3pt line.

The more I think about it the more I like Hood/Burks in the 2nd unit.

More joe > less joe

I still like Hood as a starter way better. Ingles passes up too many open looks. I like the firepower that Hood provides and it makes the rotations make more sense too. I like Hood being first out on the perimeter then coming back to start the 2nd/4th to lead those units offensively. Closing is a more interesting question, I guess it would depend on how well Hood is or isnt playing.

When I said Ingles could be the Jazz starting SG people laughed at me because you know he looks old, slow and all. But dude plays smart basketball on both ends.

I like Hood much, he sure is a better player. But Ingles might be a better fit to the starting lineup if Favors becomes productive offensively again.

Rodney will develop better on 2nd unit. Can be more the playmaker. Our second unit is best in league.

I think Ingles and Exum should start in the backcourt, and then when we pick up Bogut after he's waived he can start so Rudy can come off the bench and anchor the second unit. With any luck we can sign Aron Baynes to replace the broken down Favors at PF

Hood starts. Exum, Burks, Ingles, JJ, Lyles and Diaw are the best bench in the league. . . plus there's room to upgrade over Neto, Mack, Diaw and Witgey if they choose to.

I like the way you think is there a spot for Patty Mills and Delle on the roster? Thon might need a year or two...

Looks like Gordon Hayward is a huge Ingles fan..

One guy who is playing really well and doesn’t get enough credit is Joe Ingles. He has been so steady and solid for us the whole season. When he gets in the game, he makes things happen. He’s been one of our best defenders. His playmaking ability is something that’s really underrated, and then there’s the way he’s been shooting the ball.

He’s in the top five in 3-point percentage around the league. That’s pretty excellent.

With all our injuries, every player on our team has been important. Joe Ingles has filled in and stepped up for guys that have gone down on multiple different occasions.
