I think the biggest thing that has surprised me this offseason is how overrated Hayward has become... people are now acting like he's some franchise-altering talent, after years of underrating him. We obviously know he's a great player, but he's not elite. He's probably in the Top-30 players in the league right now. I mean he had to basically have a PERFECT system built around him as the go to guy to make his first all-star game, albeit in his 7th season. That's not the guy who changes the fate of a franchise.
 
LOL What is so terrible about the article? We made out as well as we could, but to say we did not have a bad offseason all things considered is straight homerism.
 
Losing Hayward and Hill will greatly hurt the team this season, possibly causing them to miss the playoffs. Although the Jazz did a decent job during the draft and free agency, they weren’t able to fully replace the two aforementioned veterans.

This is pretty accurate. But I'm not concerned with replacing last year's identity. I'm much more concerned with finding out what the Jazz' new identity will be.
 
The article didn't say anything about injuries (a major factor in last year's results) and it reduced Ricky Rubio to a liability and Donavan Mitchell was an after thought. Frankly, I think we are all going to see our offense go from one of the most ISO dominant teams in the league to a top 8 passing team and Rubio doesn't have to score to facilitate the offense better than 40 game overpaid Hill and Shelvin Mack/Neto. If we seriously are a top 3 defensive team with an increase in deflections that bring our pace up... add in health and a assists and I think this article will look narrow minded in 8 months.

If we aren't healthy, Donovan plays like a shell of the SL performances we saw, Rubio can't shoot so much that he can't open up any passes, and we average 80 points... then so be it. But I really can't see a Rubio run offense be lower than a top 15 team in the league. The Twolves offense outperformed their roster and they whined about Rubio's inability to stretch the floor. They didn't know how good they had it. Teague doesn't run an offense. Teague scores. Rubio ran an offense. I would say last year the Jazz spent long periods of games NOT running an offense. I am excited to see that change.
 
Considering what the Jazz had to deal with, two players leaving them by their own design, I think the Jazz (DL) made an incredible rebound. They signed four solid players, one who could be a borderline All-Star as PG. Plus they got the steal of the draft -- as voted on by the rookies themselves! Can't do much better than that when you consider what DL had to work with.

DL losing Hayward for nothing is a failure on his part. Can we please just acknowledge that it is his job to avoid what happened. If the GM is helpless then why have one?
 
Except for losing Hayward, I think it was a series of right moves. I think Rubio > Hill long term, and maybe even short term what with the injuries.

As for losing Hayward... What the hell else were they supposed to do for him?

I don't think you understand that not everything happens that you want to happen. A GM can only do so much, but when a player wants a change of scenery (and to not be the MAN anymore), what else can you do?
