I figured I'd give this guy his own thread this off-season. I'm not sure what peoples' feelings are on him at this point backing up Rudy. I had thought the best way to cap off last off-season was to deal for him in the salary dump. I had mixed feelings about facilitating the whole Durant thing but DL already has a penchant for facilitating GS' contention. Anyway, for two off-seasons I've really felt we were quite week up front coming off the bench. Bogut seemed like a good move. We traded for Diaw instead, who brought value, but still left us fairly thin on actual rebounders and guys that can anchor the defense off the bench. When Dallas waived him I thought it was fairly clear that having Lyles and Bogut as our primary guys playing with Gobert and Favors left a lot to be desired, with the two of them only combining for about 11 rebounds per 36 minutes. Perhaps there's a bit more to the waiver process that goes on behind the scenes where the culture dictates what happens rather than the by-the-book approach (meaning agents may tell teams not to make waiver claims and the GMs try to respect that by doing them a solid). But in any case, I think all season demonstrated a weakness with big men off the bench and bringing in Bogut would have allowed us to rest Favors more. Yes, I understand he had a random freak injury. Our lack of big depth was exposed in the playoffs and luckily we worked around it and got out of the first round.

Anyway, enough about the past. I'd love to see this guy be our target this off-season. He could give Cleveland another shot or even perhaps sign for the minimum with the Warriors. I'm going to be pissed if we pass on him for the third time and he signs in Boston (they could really use him).

Will he even be in the league? Unfortunately he is a shell of his former self.

So is Joe Johnson. Like Joe, Bogut will neither be starting nor playing large minutes.

What kind of a deal do you have in mind?

Whatever we can land him with. I know there's been debate on the whole MLE issue and I honestly don't know what we've determined on how that works, but I'd offer a sizable chunk of a MLE for a year, perhaps with a second (unguaranteed) year.

The Jazz can only afford to pay backup centers the minimum. So if it isnt that, no.

Most likely what it would have to be. I see him looking to go to a place where he can contend and play a role. I think that narrows it to Warriors (I know I heard he was upset by the trade), SAS, Cleveland, Boston or us. Maybe he lands in Houston when they strike out.

JJ just blew up in the playoffs and had a direct hand in winning a series. When is the last time Bogut did that.

But I see no problem with the Jazz looking into him. If he is healthy and able to contribute than why not?

I'd rather get a PG though.

He broke his tibia in his first game with Cleveland. If he heals and is in shape why not. Will add to the Assies on the team.

Bogut would be a fine pickup. A vet with plenty of injuries, but he could revitalize his career here methinks. He probably picks a championship contender and plays for circus peanuts...

We need someone to give Rudy a good 18-22 minutes of rest per game. Bradley played 14.6 minutes per game last year in college. At best he replaces Withey.

True, but Bogut is a complete douche. You guys remember him yanking the towel away from Rudy when he wanted to use it? lol But really, anyone but Bogut. He's almost on empty atm.

Part of why we need him. He still grabbed 13 rebounds per 36 last year yet we played 4 rebounds per 36 Diaw.

Your comparison of JJ and Bogut is hilarious. Bogut's career is done, I don't see him helping any team at all...except for keeping the bench warm.

I'd love to see Bogut in a Jazz uniform but as others have said what will be the price and is his body up to it? He's only 32 (will be 33 early next season) but he's had some huge injuries, he could be an awesome role player off the bench and give the Jazz some toughness that i think they need, that's if he ever gets on the floor tho.

It'll be Bradley as the back-up. If Withey doesn't sign anywhere I imagine he'll get an invite.

I'm sure they'll be looking for Favors to play some 5 as well.

Not really. We see JJ's value to the team because we watched him play all year. A lot of other people would remember what JJ used to be then see he only scored 9 points per game this season and think we're silly for overvaluing that. Obviously he played big in the Clippers series. Similarly, we look at Bogut and see he ain't scoring and doesn't put up as monstrous stats as he used to. He was grabbing 8 boards a game last year. I would have settled for a backup who could have grabbed 8 rebounds over the course of the whole season.

Interested. But I can see there being problems if the rookie outplays him and Bogut can't get off the bench. I also wouldn't pay him more than the minimum for that reason, and I'm not sure that would work, either.
