I figured I'd give this guy his own thread this off-season. I'm not sure what peoples' feelings are on him at this point backing up Rudy. I had thought the best way to cap off last off-season was to deal for him in the salary dump. I had mixed feelings about facilitating the whole Durant thing but DL already has a penchant for facilitating GS' contention. Anyway, for two off-seasons I've really felt we were quite week up front coming off the bench. Bogut seemed like a good move. We traded for Diaw instead, who brought value, but still left us fairly thin on actual rebounders and guys that can anchor the defense off the bench. When Dallas waived him I thought it was fairly clear that having Lyles and Bogut as our primary guys playing with Gobert and Favors left a lot to be desired, with the two of them only combining for about 11 rebounds per 36 minutes. Perhaps there's a bit more to the waiver process that goes on behind the scenes where the culture dictates what happens rather than the by-the-book approach (meaning agents may tell teams not to make waiver claims and the GMs try to respect that by doing them a solid). But in any case, I think all season demonstrated a weakness with big men off the bench and bringing in Bogut would have allowed us to rest Favors more. Yes, I understand he had a random freak injury. Our lack of big depth was exposed in the playoffs and luckily we worked around it and got out of the first round.
Anyway, enough about the past. I'd love to see this guy be our target this off-season. He could give Cleveland another shot or even perhaps sign for the minimum with the Warriors. I'm going to be pissed if we pass on him for the third time and he signs in Boston (they could really use him).
