Quite frankly, I am glad Sloan is gone. Like all great coaches there time passes them. Unfortunately, many times they don't know when it is time to leave. Sloan should have retired when S&M left. The last few years it looked as though Jerry was tired of the grind and was just mailing it in.

I like Sloan--kind of like I like Memo. I'd trade my drudgerous career for theirs.

Their respective coaching and interior-defense performances, however, are something different.

Deron should be applauded for accelerating the long-delayed departure of a coach who helped to put (and keep) the Jazz on the NBA map but lacked some of the fundamental coaching skills (e.g., analysis, adjustments) to maximize the team's potential.

Unfortunately Utah missed on the opportunity to give Sloan a proper farewell in previous years and then hire the likes of Tom Thibodeau or Rick Carlisle, both of whom actually enforce defense--not just give lip service to it. (Signing Tyson Chandler surely helped Carlisle.)

Sloan is one of the greatest of all time. It's not his fault he had to deal with a incompetent front office and a diva 'franchise player' in D-Will.
This team would be lucky if Sloan came back.
