My posts were far too juvenile to assume they come from deep caverns of hate against the church. I had no purpose of posting other than too invoke a sense of light humor to alleviate our own internal pressures that causes many of us to squirm when we read or hear that all men have bodily functions. And juvenile people use farts as an artistic medium to spread laughter. I'm quite sure that Jesus had many more times of joy and laughter than the moment of rage. We focus a lot on the pain He suffered and can take detailed accounts of all the great miracles. But what about the simple laughter he gave us? We are under immense internal pressures to not screw up our eternal lives by giving in to the thorns in our sides. We miss out on so much living because we are afraid to succumb to something. If Jesus was 100% human then he would also have a sense of humor, bodily functions, and could not always have been dramatic 24/7. Who would want to be around your boss all day long? Who would leave their lives and families to follow a fun hater? Who would follow man who could not take time to enjoy the simple things in life. He came to be our friend first. I bet, he would sit there with a bug in his hands and stare at it and laugh at how weird and ugly they are. Laughed even harder at the fear they can cause in us. We are all often too wrapped up in the seriousness of our lives we missed actually living. I'd take back decades to actually enjoy the experiences I've had. Minus my dad convincing me my whole life farting on people was okay. Should have seen how many women scattered from me every time I tried to use it as the move to first base..... Wait.... I've never made it past 1st. Who's on second?
Celebrate a life and try not to iconize a man into a box. I hear the rumors about Packer. What made him smile, laugh, and get up everyday. I think we all are looking for that key to life.

Your approach is interesting. Perhaps just my upbringing but it's a bit flippant. Don't get me wrong; I applaud your effort to facilitate a feeling of ease and light heartedness, but for most members of the church, I think this approach feels too careless and crude.

Nope. If you're not Mormon, you shouldn't care. If anything, you should probably be happy. He was old school, in a bigoted kind of way.

I have a question and I'm not sure it's terribly proper in a thread like this, but I'll ask anyway.

Should, and I mean in any sort of general way, this man's passing, or any man's passing in Packer's role, have any sort of meaning for a non-Mormon living in Utah?

I guess to shorten the question, should I care? And I don't mean this pejoratively. Certainly noteworthy and newsworthy, and meaningful for those of the LDS faith, but I wonder if there I should give any more thought to this over, say, a known Hollywood celebrity's death.

Maybe you should. If he's replaced by leaders that want to edge the church out of public policy making then that might have one effect on your life, if he's replaced by leaders who want to get even more involved in public policy making then that could have a very different effect.
