Brice, Svi and Juzang - the last man standing

If the Jazz are forced to keep just one player out of Brice, Svi and Juzang who should it be?

Don’t need to choose between them because you can play 2-3 wings at any given time so 4-6 of your regular rotation players should be wings. I think Svi gets thrown into a trade a a small sweetener. I think Juzang is the best long term prospect but Brice has a higher ceiling. I’d say it’s Brice, Juzang, Svi and I expect Juzang and Brice to both be on the roster next year.

The salary you are referring to in 27-28 includes Brice`s qualifying offer. Very, very few players end up on that. The season before the difference in salaries between them is only 2 million and for this season and next, the Ju-Zang Clan actually makes more than Brice.
In the first two years Juzang will be payed about 300K more than Brice per year: it's a wash. But, if Brice is still on the Jazz in 27-28 he will not be making much less than the QO ( quite likely, it would be more). Nobody would sign the extension that pays considerably less than the qualifying offer and Brice will not extend for any amount comparable to Juzang's 2.8 million. The bottom line is the same: if Brice is still on the team several years from now he will be payed quite a bit more than Johnny.

It's not so much about the total number of wings (although, even there the Jazz now have too many right at 7). Its more about having a variety of wings. Brice, Svi and Juzang are all non-passing and not great on defense but can really shoot threes. You don't need three of them off the bench.

If I had to rank them....

  1. Sensabaugh
    • Has some self-creation upside and is a great shooter. I think he has playmaking upside as well, but that may never actualize if his decision making doesnt speed up and improve. Defense is honestly better than I expected given his defensive reputation in college. Age is what really puts him in the #1 slot.
  2. Juzang
    • Has a potentially elite and valuable skill as a movement shooter. Defense isnt good, but I dont think it's awful either.
  3. Svi
    • Has unlimited confidence and when he's completely set his shot looks beautiful. Probably the best defender of the 3. Issue is he forces some crazy shots at times. Also has a proven track record of being mediocre over the long haul.

The money you are quoting is off. Neither Juzang or Svi have guaranteed contracts and could be waived at any time and the jazz would have tononly pay for the rest of this year.

Sensabaugh is on his rookie contract and the 3rd and 4th year's are a team option. So all of them could be off the Jazz next year if they so choose.
