Building blocks, my thoughts on the direction the jazz should take.

Once again for the thousandth time. Jazz play Lucas for 30 minutes, top 3 worst record, if they actually play Trey Burks, not so much. Trey has come along better and faster than anyone but his mama would have thought. There is no coaching tweak, trading of Jefferson, moving of Marvin that is going to automatically put us in the 1 to 3 range. Only playing large minutes for Lucas and Benching Burke. That's it. It's how we got to 1-14. Does anyone advocate sitting Trey on the bench and playing Lucas for 30-35 minutes? Anyone? Can you imaging the joke we would become?

I also don't understand why anyone is in such a hurry to trade Trey. Sure all the good teams have a good point guard, but if we trade Trey, we don't. If you have one, hold on to him like gold until you have two. Then you can worry about trading a good point guard.

The only three tradable commodities that we have right now that we could get value for are Favors, Burke, and Burks. Everyone else we will get short value on because of their contract situation or rawness. Anyone want to trade any of those three?

I see no reason why, if we draft well at where we are currently slotted, we can't be better than the Warriors next year. Yes it is nice to have a superstar, but if you match a superstar on superstar salary and screw up 1 or 2 large contract you get the New Jersey Nets or the Knicks. Having a solid number of great players on fair contracts is going to do more than it has in the past because of the tightening salary structure. There will be more Indianas than Miamis. Don't get caught riding last decade's trend.

I agree, but how do we get Ty to get onboard with the JL train. Unless that happens I don't see us making the HUGE leap we are all hoping for. Rather, we will end up taking a baby step forward.

OP is suggesting that we use our assets (our own #5-8 pick, gs pick, and kanter, burke) to move up into the top 3 to get wiggins or parker.

I agree with stoked though about burks not being a point guard..... Though I think he IS better suited to defend point guards than 2 gaurds.

I like the jabari stretch 4 idea.
I think burks, hayward, jabari, and favors would be an awesome lineup no matter who the point guard is.

Plus jabari is playing center in college so he is already kinda getting prepared to play as a "big" instead of small forward

Since then they have come across lukewarm. Perhaps the lack of ticket sales has caused them to flinch.

I disagree with your statement. The "tank" is proceeding exactly how they planned and perhaps a bit better. Compare the core-5 to personnel on teams like Boston, Philly and Orlando. I don't think there was ever a belief by Lindsey that the Jazz would end up top-5. The 1-14 start was the result of Burke being injured, not because the rest of the team is terrible. What exactly has changed with Ty and Lindsey? The core-5 are still getting minutes. Enes is averaging 25; perhaps we wanted him to get 30. Alec is averaging 28. Ok, bump him up a couple as well. But I don't think swapping RJ or MW for those two would make much difference in the record. In fact, Jazz might be better by a game or two.

So what would need to happen for the Jazz to lose more? Play Biedrins instead of Favors? Bench Burke and go back to Lucas as the starting PG? Yes, I suppose Ty could be told to bench MW and RJ and play Rush, Evans and Thomas instead. I'm not convinced that's the way to go. I think the line-up is shaping up exactly how they want to proceed next season, i.e. bring a couple of scorers (Kanter and Burks) off the bench and keep some floor spacers in the game alongside Favors, Hayward and Burke. Just need to upgrade via the draft/FA over MW and RJ and strengthen the bench with Neto? and perhaps one more solid addition.

We need to give up on this idea that we will have the assets to trade up for Parker or Wiggins. NO TEAM is going to trade out of the top-2/3 (I'm saying 3 because one of those teams might fall in love with Embiid). Only way a team MIGHT consider trading out is if they were given Favors, the #5 and another pick. You simply don't trade potential superstars for lesser players.

All he's dong is bringing up the ball. Hayward would work as the assist man And playmaker with Burks and Parker or Wiggins being the scores.

Have you forgotten how bad the Jazz were without Burke running the offense. When Hayward has been the main focus of the offense he turns into a turnover machine. Jazz need to be patient and not do something stupid like trading Burke. Besides most teams have their PG except for maybe the Lakers (not going to happen). Jazz are still going to get a very good player in this draft. You start trading guys when they don't want to be here or they are wanting too much money.

I know everyone thinks that Wiggins or Parker are going to solve our problem of not having a superstar but both of these guys are not close to being superstars yet. They have the potential to be but they are going to struggle and are going to need time to develop. I think if the Jazz get an all-star player and a good role player out of this draft then they can be a force down the line. This proclamation also includes that our Core6 get better and stay together.

See i watch the games and in the rare instances when he has been matched up against tony parker, damian lillard, mo williams, ty lawson etc, he has done a very good job.

The guys that he struggles against the most are strong shooting guards. Wes matthews kept back burks down and abusing him with his strength. Burks did really good against klay thompson (a guy who uses lots of screens) Did great against randy foye as well.

Burks always seems to do ok against guys who are good based off speed and quickness or finesse guys that just shoot jumpers.
D wade, wes matthews, kobe bryant, lance stephenson types of guys that use strength and physicality are they guys that i worry about burks gaurding

I never suggested Burks play pg, just fill that spot. Both Burks and Hayward are good enough ball handlers to run the offense as a tandem, then bring someone like Neto or someone else to be a co starting pg with Hayward and Burks.

^^Agree with cowhide. There may be a time when Burke is replaced. But I doubt it's because Neto outplays him and Burks is NOT a starting PG. Could be via the draft if PG is the BPA. Then Lindsey uses FA to get a wing. And Hayward CANNOT be the main ballhandler.
