1. Consent - Both parties agree to a fight, in a self defense situation, the attacker chooses you.
2. Awareness- In a fight you are aware that it is going to happen i.e. you both square off, or meet at a certain time/place etc. In a self defense situation you can be ambushed, or a person might be aggressive towards you but you cant always tell for sure if things will go physical.
3. Preparation- Even if you agree to a fight a few moments beforehand there is some time to prepare. Self defense situations often go from 0 to 100 in a matter of seconds.
I disagree with pretty much all 3 of these.
The kid picked up another student and slammed him to the ground. To me he is fighting when he goes at him.
He made a decision to defend himself and go after his attacker. Anytime you have a physical confrontation between 2 people in which both parties make physical contact intending harm it is a fight.
Could he have stood there and taken it? Yes. Should he have? No. But he did go after the kid. You call it self defense. I call it both. Yes he defended himself but he was also fighting. You seem to think fighting and defending oneself are mutually exclusive. They are not, you can be doing both of them at the same time.
We disagree. I'm done arguing over it.
