Burke Gets Invite

Good for him. Many players often get invites simply to work out against Team USA. Either way that is cool and good for Burke.

This camp helped Hayward and Favors get better. I assume it will be good for Burkes development and he will improve from it. It is weird that best case for some of you is Burkes value goes up not that he gets a lot better and helps our team win.

Because him getting better does not necessarily make the Jazz better considering his style of play -- Chucker, Hero baller, Poor Man's AI. Not what I want on my team -- similar to Kanter, great stats but not good for the team.

Then why dont you hope he fixes or changes that? Chucker is simply a term for a player who shoots to much but not making them enough to justify it. Its not hard to think he could shoot less or make shots at a higher percentage, enough that he would be helpful to the team.

Again just can't understand why Burke has been "labeled" at this stage of his career. Especially given the fact that the coaching staff was public about wanting Trey to be aggressive as a scorer. Burke was aggressive scorer his first year at UM and was much more of a pure point his second. Player settle into different roles all the time in basketball and/or grow in areas of they game they are weak in. I can't understand why people have "wash their hands" of Burke after two seasons.

U.S. team knows the significance of inviting our Messiah, Black Jesus

Well, he actually regressed his second year both in terms of his shooting percentages and decision-making. Doesn't take a genius to figure out that the team is better off when you involve the "stars" who are also much better shooters. Instead, Trey froze out Hayward (and Favors and Burks) as a starter. And it shouldn't take a genius to figure out that being more aggressive doesn't mean dribbling the shot clock down and going 1-on-3 to the rim when you have WIDE OPEN teammates standing around just waiting for a catch and shoot.

I don't think there's much chance Trey will get taller or appreciably quicker over the next one or even five seasons.

If you watched Burke all season and thought it was a step back season then we aren't likely to reach an agreement on Burke as a talent now or moving forward. However even if you are 100% correct it still doesn't change my point. Why the continued hate? Even if everything you say is true(which I don't agree with) why not just hope working with Snyder and his staff(whom the board seem to universally respect) will allow Trey to overcome his negative play style? I don't think anybody is saying Trey is uncoachable(although with most of the unjustified criticism I'm sure the point will be made).

Trey doesn't really have a history in the league. Which is why I don't get the labeling. Many of the same haters just knew Burke to the bench would create a problem with Trey. Yet he was willing to do what was best for the team.

Good for Burke.

I'm somewhere in the middle of all this. I dont think hes as bad, and such a lost cause as other people, where they will trade him for nothing. But I also don't think he has any star potential. He lacks the athleticsm for it.

I agree that we should give him a little bit more of a chance. He still is young. There were some good moments last year. He often provided us with scoring punch off the bench.

I don't think it's a stretch to say he can improve his percentages and decision making.

This is why a lot of you would make terrible GM's. You don't give up on your draft picks so soon. That's how you find yourself as one of the terrible teams. We spent two first rounders on him. That's an investment. You don't give up on it after two seasons.

Not sure I have heard anyone seriously claim Burke is going to be a star recently. Mostly this is an argument of Burke is trash and should be dumped or at least traded for anything asap. Vs the people who think he still has some potential and will probably improve and hope he can help us win or at least raise his stock to be worth a good trade.

The hate on this forum is rather comical. Why not just hope a player on the team you root for gets better?

Hate for Burke? Hate? Hate is too strong a word. I would be considered by you to be a "hater" while I do not hate Trey. He has worked hard and behaved well. But after seeing him for 2 years I just don't think he has the basketball ability to be a very solid PG in the NBA, marginal backup maybe. Just my opinion, but that is not hate. I would be perfectly happy to be proved wrong, but I don't see it.

I don't hate Burke, just hate his style of play, which I don't think fits well for the Jazz. I hate when leads the fast break and doesn't look to pass, I hate when he dribbles down the clock and shoots up a prayer, I hate when he plays matador defense like a small version of Boozer, I hate when he thinks he's the man but is actually still just a boy.

I do actually think he has some talent but he needs to learn how to use it, and unless he changes his style and attitude, he will be a marginal backup at best. If he shows me that he can change, then I'll reconsider my desire to trade him.
