Burks at #12

Not crazy about the pick - I would have went for a shooter like Hamilton.

But what the hell - it's the 12th pick. If he can develop into a solid role player, I'll be happy.

And I like his "chip on my shoulder" talk. Let's see if he can back it up.

If he can play the point in the NBA he can be a match-up nightmare for opposing teams.

showed plenty of 3's being made. didnt show the 71% of his long shots clanking off the rim

If I am not mistaken, Gordon Hayward shot 29.4% from the 3 in his last season at Butler. Give the kid a chance is my main point.

I like Burks a lot. He gives us an athletic ball handler who can create his own shot. If he can ever develop an OK 3 point shot, he can be very good.

Look on the bright side. When was the last time the Jazz had a 2 and 3 that were capable of putting the ball on the floor, creating their own shot, and both were good passers as well? Burk has a chip on his shoulder and a strong desire to prove people wrong about his basketball ability. I am Ok with this pick. Many good small forwards in next years draft, and if I remember right Burks was the #1 rated shooting guard in the draft.

Okay fine then, just hate on him... I, for one, like the Jazz's pick. Usually if Jazz Fanz hate on a player they end up being pretty good.

I remember the same time last year, Hayward was a bust too.

Look guys, we weren't going to get a great player at #12. We're looking at a guy who will most likely just be a solid starter, and I am ok with that. He's going to be a good fit for our offense, and adds a lot more length to our defense. This is a solid, solid pick and we should be happy with it.

Not to mention that he is a guy who can also grab some rebounds. Averaged 6.5 per game last year. I don't think he will average that in the NBA of course, but I am sure he will put up some decent numbers.

Burks was the last player left in the draft with All-Star potential. I was watching the NBA TV NBA Draft Preview and one of the analyst picked him to be ROY and called him "The next Dwayne Wade". This guy has potential to be much more than a role player. It's the Jazz finally taking a chance, which I thought everyone here would love.

The biggest thing about Burks is his ability to create his own shot and draw FTs. He can drive to both left and right. He is a decent defender. Good passer. Nice size, decent athleticism. Good overall connect from the floor, which coupled with the number of times he got fouled, is really terrific. However, not being a good s.hooter is a huge concern. Also, he played against rather ppor competition and did not take his team to being ranked, hence he is not a difference maker at a college level. KOC made the best pick he could at #12. Burks has a chance to be really good, he is still very young, so let's hope for the best.

I won't pretend to know much about burks. However if his role on the team was the primary play maker it can be difficult for those guys to have high shooting %'s. Looking at the videos on this site in the threads his shot does not look bad. Good release and a nice looking shot overall. That shooting % is alarming but if he is shooting set shots set up for somebody else it may go up. I believe that was why Haywards % was so low his senior year.

I think that given time and practice, the numbers will improve.
