What's new

Bye Bye Henry Sims

If Withey didn't stabilize the last couple of pre season games, this could easily have went a different direction.

You really think a handful of meh preseason games are going to influence them that much over last season and a full off-season of working out and practices?

No surprise, but you feel sorry for these guys. Generally, there isn't much difference between the 15th guy on a roster and the players who get cut. But there sure is for them: nba minimum salary is around $550K, IINM. DLeague pays, what, around $25K?

I thought he played fairly well in the minutes I saw. I prefer Withey as did the Jazz. Now the remaining cut to be made is the hardest decision. Neto, CJ, or Withey. Neto is the 4rth best guard, but... if George Hill or Mack are gone by next year then Neto is a great 3rd string option. If Exum gets hurt again he provides depth. CJ plays his tail off. He does a good job being defensive minded, feisty... but he doesn't seem to hit the threes as well as he could. 3 and D - 3. Withey gives us more depth as a big.

Are we just playing favorites based on injuries? If so, I think Neto is out - even though he has guaranteed money. I really like him as a player. If it's not Neto, do we do one less big man with the league going smaller and give Withey the double deuce (first loses his playmate, then his job)! Or is it CJ who hustles but brings depth where we may need it the most? Tough decisions.

Sim's resume was just as good as Withey's. He's averaged 12 and 7 as a starter. Obviously Withey's experience with the club means something, but the fact that they even brought in Sims and kept him as long as they did means something else. Players like Withey don't have the luxury of bad preseasons. It isn't like Withey is a fan favorite deep on the bench either, like a Jeremy Evans. Withey looked really, really bad for a little while there.

No doubt Neto stays. Better 3-pt shooter and better PG defense than CJ. It's always been between Withey and CJ. We shall see, but I would think Withey has the edge as we all have thought, until Withey had those bad games while CJ was looking good.

This is really off topic. But does anyone else get annoyed by this sort of statement? I feel like Exum is getting treated like he's injury prone after just one injury. Especially when he's had way more time to recover than the usual time for the type of injury. Maybe I just don't want to jinx it :/

Mack isn't leaving. The FO is going to play every single card they have to keep Hayward. Mack is a small card but it'll still be used to it's fullest.
