What's new

BYU Fires DC Jaime Hill

I wouldn't read a whole lot into it. They may run a little more option stuff but Heaps is not an option guy. His arm is way more valuable than his feet ever will be. When you get a nice gig in college sports, you bring in your buds. That's how it works.

The way the tight ends and slot backs are used in option schemes is probably relevant though. BYU's tight ends could use any coaching help they can get in regards to blocking and BYU is probably going to use the slot more now so hopefully this guy can provide the necessary help there. And hopefully he is a personable guy for recruiting purposes.

Who knows though, Riley Nelson is still here afterall.....I'm hoping he stays on the bench or moves positions.....but I know Doman likes the guy.

I was hoping we could get Ben Cahoon to coach the receivers.
That guy has amazing hands, I still remember some of the amazing grabs he had when he played for the Cougars.
I guess I was hoping we could get him, so he could teach and train the receivers to get everything thrown their direction, as opposed to the 500 drops we had this past year.

Cahoon did announce his retirement from some Canadian league so it's still possible. So he could take the job.

I find it kind of weird that they lump TEs with slot guys as far as coaching.

It's definitely going to be Cahoon. I like it. I like the coaching they do have now. Young, but hopefully hot on the recruiting trail. I think it's worth pointing out that since Hill and Anae are now gone, BYU has finally achieved racial purity(jokes jokes) in the coaching ranks now. I don't think it really matters all that much personally, but who knows, some blacks and polys might view that as a negative. It certainly is easier to recruit Hawaii if you have a respected poly on your staff going in there, but BYU has done okay without relying on that pipeline for the last few years. I think Kahuku has actually produced the most NFL players of any high school in the country though, so you definitely can't ignore it especially since those guys are most likely Mormons. You just have to hope your palagi are cool enough to hang in the Islands.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to get a... Reno Mahe in on the offensive side, or a former Offensive lineman that is a Poly to coach the line. I do think it is a good idea to have a Polynesian coach that may help some of the possible Polynesian players feel more comfortable. The Polynesian culture is much more about family in an extended family way than our culture is, so it makes more of a difference than we would think. Either way... they just get the best coaches they can and make it work.

BYU did hire Ben Cahoon as the receivers coach.
I'm happy with that hire..... but I guess we should wait to see what happens.
He can catch... lets see if he can coach.
