BYU Fires DC Jaime Hill

...Utah fans do the same thing... it's easier to see someone else's "problem", and see ourselves as fair and tolerant.
People talk up, or down, current situations to make themselves feel better.

I'd like to think I'm a little different from that. I will admit that since the Sugar Bowl in '08 I became a fully invested kool-aid drinker when it came to Whit and the Utes. However, before then I was usually skeptical and worried about nearly everything they did.

I felt Ronnie Mac needed to go for the program to take the next step, but I was weary of the Meyer hiring because so little was known about him. When Meyer left I wasn't sure if Whit was the guy to take this program to yet another level and I was flat-out calling for his head before 2008. I think 2010 has served as a wake-up call for me and other Ute fans. While I still believe that Whit and Utah can have great success in the Pac12, I don't think it's nearly as automatic as most Utah fans believe. I am encouraged by the early recruiting for the upcoming class but Utah has some MAJOR issues to address heading into 2011 and beyond but I think they'll do just fine.

That being said, I still hate BYU and being the hater that I am, it's my job to put a negative spin on nearly everything they do. It seems to make me happy so I just don't see a reason to stop now.

I understand, and I actually don't have a problem with it.

I think Whit is a great coach and will continue to be one for years and years if Utah keeps him.
I am somewhat of a wierdo in that I usually don't start calling for people to be fired or players to be traded quickly.
It takes a lot for me to get that far, and I have to have pretty good evidence that things will not, or cannot improve with that coach or player.
That being said, I am all for a change if there is a good chance it will bring improvement in one way or another.

I hope the rivalry doesn't die after the split because it's been a really good one the last 10 years.

I personally wasn't on the Fire Anae bandwagon. The whole program had a down year. It happens all the time, with every program. I do think Anae got a little stagnant and predictable with his play calling. Since Anae is gone, I'm glad Doman got the position. I think and hope he's ready for it.

For the record: I think jazzman12 is one of the most level headed Utah fans I know.

Not sure if I'm happy about Doman. As I recall, when Doman was here he was 1/2 of the Doman/Staley option. BYU needs an OC that can be creative and run a spread offense. Hopefully Doman can do more than Crowtonize the offense again.

Nothing is guaranteed and it's entirely possible Doman flops. But Anae's playcalling was terrible and his recruiting sucked (he is credited with being a big reason the poly pipeline has shut down to some extent especially from Kahuku). And it pretty much locks in McCoy Hill as a Cougar (would hate if he would've gone to the Utes).

Had a BYU fanatic tell me at work today that BYU is working on bringing in Ty Detmer as QB coach. I have no idea if there's any truth to that but if it were to happen I doubt there'd be a dry set of panties in Provo (FYI: I'm including men in that statement).

I know I'd be drenched.

You know if Scott Mitchell were to come back and coach for the U, every Utah fan would wet their... um... oh wait, none of them even wear underwear from what I hear.

Doman is still the QB coach as well as OC.

Conan, you know anything about this new coach Dupaix? He seems like a guy you might know with his dad being a high school coach in the SLC area and such.

Kind of an interesting hire. Dupaix is obviously a big option guy coming from Skyline and then SUU and then coaching at Navy. I think he is going to coach TEs and inside WRs. If I remember right that is what Anae was coaching.

Doman and Dupaix are close friends so I think maybe it has more to do with Doman wanting guys around him he trusts. But not to take away from Dupaix who has a decent coaching pedigree.

I don't know about the son, but the dad was a douche of epic proportions. I would know, I had him for two years.

Doman went to Skyline and played under Dupaix. They were all about the option offense.

This smacks of BYU running an option offense ala Crowton when he had Doman and Staley under him. If this comes to pass BYU football is doomed and I cannot be a part of it.

This whole thing really leaves me with a nasty taste in my mouth.
