Calexit

I'm not even going to take succession seriously. I think it's clearly an opportunistic movement for a little political spotlight.

For sure but I have heard this bs idea for a long time. The idea that California gets a bum deal or that it would be better off as a separate nation is insane. I realize that secession won't happen. I just couldn't help but point out that it would be a bad idea if it could happen.

The federal government wouldn't allow secession even if California voted for it. I also don't get the idea that a state seceding would cut them off from the rest of the country. They can still have their agreements with other states/countries over water and what have you. This is similar to comments about how ****ed the rest of the US would be if the South seceded. How so? They would still have their agg companies that grow crops and sell to others.

We send way more water to Cali than is required under the Colorado river compact. So even if that compact held up California would get much less CR water. I don't think it would hold up for 2 reasons 1) technically the US Congress has authority and could step in if it wanted to right now 2) Us states don't have the authority to make treaties with foreign governments. A treaty would likely need to be negotiated with the US.

I imagine they probably wouldn't get a much better deal than Mexico did from a likely vindictive US congress.
