Can or will it ever happen...

Is it possible we will ever see a 3rd party candidate elected POTUS?

  • No. It cannot and will not ever happen.

  • Yes. It is inevitable and just a matter of time, and will happen sooner rather than later.

  • It could happen, but is so unlikely as to border on the impossible.

  • It could happen, and probably will, but not in my lifetime.

  • I don't really care, 2 parties are all we need.

  • 2 parties are 1 too many. Everyone knows that X party is always right anyway.

I'm pretty optimistic it will happen in my lifetime. About 20 years ago people told me pot would never be legal (and a bunch of technical legal issues aside, it's pretty much legal in my state) and that we'd never have a black President. When the ball gets rolling things change pretty quickly.

I think in the days of kickstarter campaigns and viral videos it will take a perfect storm of a great 3rd party candidate and two terrible major party candidates. Thankfully the major parties tend to deliver the latter on a spectacularly regular basis.

I really liked huntsman jr. I think he should get some rich friends together and start a third party to back a very good moderate. I think a "fiscally conservative, socially liberal" platform could do very well with voters aged 18-45 in our current political climate.

I am so sick of the general public being scared back into liking republicans or democrats by people like the Koch brothers and Ralph Nader. I know they aren't the same, but it seems to me they are doing the same thing. Fringe parties that preach extremism will never be elected to major seats like potus, but I really think a lot of people could get behind someone who preached a moderate, pragmatic platform.

I second franks comment about liking Willard mittens Romney when he wasn't lying to get conservatives on his side.

Why the hell did he need to preach conservatism anyway? Republicans weren't just going to vote for Obama because they thought Romney was too liberal. It was like he all of a sudden changed from being a moderate to this guy who thought he had to convince everyone he was conservative enough to be president. He should have let Paul Ryan be the conservative, he would have gotten more votes.

Ha, I love it. The dude that's impressed by Gingrich and Biden is dismissive.

Look it up bro it's not a conspiracy theory it is American politics. No matter how far the approval ratings of our beloved politicians fall the Dems and Reps have made it nearly impossible for a 3rd party to emerge. There is a reason that while most Americans(now 60%) believe that a 3rd party is needed we won't see one in a presidential debate. Hint It's the same reason you won't hear anything beyond sound bites in a presidential debate. It's also the reason the moderator will let them get away with it.

The debates don't matter as much as you think. Also, why is it that if 60% of Americans want a 3rd party candidate only about 5% vote for the candidate in the primaries who really has no business in the party?

Like I said, people need an excuse to complain but when it comes down to it everything turns out for the better and we're all pretty satisfied.

That's the process. Mitt couldn't have made it out of the primaries without kissing con ***. The democrats currently have the edge in flip flopping like this because they don't have to say quite as whacky stuff. The republicans should take note and run more moderates. I doubt they'd lose very often if they did.

SMD: says the guy that was spending his days on JazzFanz while running for political office.

Just because I paid the fee and filled out the paperwork doe sent mean I know what I'm talking about.

Aren't we at that age where the hard working man has long since passed and handed down his corporation to his lazy son, and his lazy son is on his way out now?

Pretty sure once that happens, GOP is done.

Define done? Suddenly the other half of the country will become socially liberal?

Or his wife, you Hillary worshiping ninny.

My question is this: how did the party of teddy Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln turn into the country club republicans? It is one of the oddest turns of an organization I can think of.

Then define done?

There's always going to be a conservative blanket for people to jump under(just as there will be a liberal one)

It's just hard for me to understand how they're going to come back from what they've shown themselves to be(bigots, crooks, ignorant of basic human biology, racists) without continued support from those born in the 90's and 2000's.

By GOP standards, a woman clearly isn't cut out for running a real business. Because, well, how are they going to know if they should expand or buckle down if they have a hard time understanding what legitimate rape is.

So your assumption is that not a single person born after a certain date supports anything republican in nature? Do you also believe that we would be far better off as a country if there were a constitutional amendment mandating that democrats are the only party allowed to run for president, since of course they are the only ones who have all the perfect answers to everything? I have to wonder, are you really that clueless, or is it an act? No wonder the two party system is destroying America, you are a perfect example of the product of one-sided thinking.

No... no I don't think that is my assumption. But as per loggrade standard you're going to make it my assumption because you can, and for some messed up reason want to, argue with it.

GG log. Setting the bar awfully high. Tell us more about how you're going to keep fighting the good fight.

You don't pay very good attention do you. I haven't chased down an argument in a long time, other than OB who is just fun to debate. I don't think I have ever even had a conversation with you directly at all. Interesting assumption on your part there. I have also never said anything about fighting the good fight, whatever that means. You can fabricate all the fights you want, or you can just answer the question. Remember, you are the one who made assertions about a major political party going the way of the dinosaur and frankly you have done a ****ty job defending your position. This drop into direct ad hominem doesn't strengthen your position much, just FYI.

So if that is NOT your assumption feel free to set the record straight. If it is, well you have my pity.

Why do so many people think that only Republican Politicians went to prestigious law schools, belong to country clubs, and accept campaign money from lobbyists? These things are also prevalent among politicians that have a (D) next to their name.
