of our players' on court/off court +/- and/or other stats to show what their value has or hasn't meant to the team to this point?

Thanks.

Any stats that paint Burke as a scrub are more than welcome, too.

Advanced analytics be damned! My eyes tell me all I need to know:

1. Gobert is becoming an absolute beast. Made a run when he was in the game vs. Sacramento. Momentum squashed when Evans subbed in (guess Rudy must have been gassed). In the SA game, Gobert held his own against Duncan and dominated when Tim wasn't in the game. Steal of the 2013 draft.

2. Hood has a nice stroke even though outside starts aren't falling...yet. Surprisingly quick when he drives. And is playing decent defense for a rookie. Steal of the 2014 draft.

3. Inconsistency from Hayward and Favors drives me nuts. One game they look like all-stars. Next game one or the other "disappears."

4. Exum = Ingles right now. He can pass. Occasionally makes a couple of baskets. Dante has shown flashes, but he's 2-3 years away from being an impact starter. We knew he was a project. And he is.

5. Burke = backup PG. Imagine him running the second team. "Hey, Rudy, when I shoot, make sure you crash the boards. Shot will get iron (usually) but not go in. Perfect opportunity for a put-back!"

Thanks. No doubt reflects the terrible 2nd quarters when our subs generally get killed. But it is interesting that most of the starters have a positive or at least 0 rating. Burks is at -1.2 and Burke is the worst starter at -6.9. Gobert has the second best +/- of all players at 5.3. Hayward leads at 9.4. I know +/- can be pretty misleading, but these stats kind of support the "eye" test. Gobert impacts the game when he plays!

On/off can be tricky to interpret, IMO. Often is reflective of how bad your teammate is who starts or subs at the same position. For example, I don't think Dante is the 2nd most effective player on the team. He actually has a slightly negative "on" rating. But his combined number is so high because Trey is so bad when he's in the game. Or maybe I'm seeing things incorrectly (wife accuses me of that often). I also realize it's not 100% correlative. Not all subs play at once and combo guards or forwards are playing with other starters or subs and in different positions. However, in the case of the Jazz, for the most part, players are only playing one position.

I think we as fans read too much into this and see more inconsistency than is real. I can buy it in regards to Favors still a bit, but I think Hayward has been much more consistent this year, and actually started the year decent rather than the usual slow start. Based on these metrics James is inconsistent, and he's still the best player in the game.

Basically, when Exum is on the court, the team performes 4.3 points per 100 possessions worse on offense and 13.1 points per 100 possessions better on defense. His rating drops signifcantly when his own production on offense is taken into account. That increase on defense may have to do with playing most of his minutes with Gobert and without Burke.

Burks is pretty much a net nothing. Team performs pretty much the same whether he's in the game or not. Only difference is that both teams play faster when he's on the court.

Favors has a surprisingly terrible defense rating, worse than Kanter. Lot has to do with having Gobert as your backup, making a team so much better defensively regardless of who Gobert is replacing.

No starter (other than Burks who is at -.3) is a net negative on offense.

No bench player is a net positive on offense.

Biggest take from looking at both sites is that Hayward is our best player by far. He and Kanter are really good offensively. Gobert and Exum are really good at defense though in Exum's case, it seems to be because of who he's playing with.

I just ran the stats by lineups and that's not as clear as you might think(the part about Exum's stats being so much dependent on Gobert's presence). Here's what the stats show(some are in limited minutes and the stats might have some noise and not be as meaningful):
-Dante is part of ALL 3 of our best defensive lineups and in 4 of the best 6 defensive lineups.
-Rudy and Dante are part of 3 of the best 6 defensive teams together.
-Dante is part of our best defensive line up at DRat of 81.5(25 minutes) without Rudy being part of that lineup.

Trey and Enes are a brutal combination in defense - pretty much all our worst defensive teams include them. They are in a relatively good defensive lineup(5th best) when Rudy is on the floor.

I ran some of that against 2 man lineups and Exum shows well there. I did minimum 50 minutes played and Exum is in 5 of the 10 top 2 man lineups. Gobert is in only 4. So you may be on to something. Only two in the top don't don't have Exum or Gobert, and they both have Booker (with Hayward and Hood?).

Conversely, looking at the worst 10 2 man lineups defensively, Burke is in 5, Enes in 4, and Favors in 4.

EDIT: And just to demonstrate how irrelevant Burks is right now. He's with Exum as the 10th best defensive duo and doesn't show up in the worst 10. He's just kinda there.

The metrics agree.

BR and NBAstats don't match, but according to NBAstats, Exum and Gobert's defensive rating is 101.4. The next closest relevant player is Booker at 105.5 and then after that is Ingles at 108.2. Worst relevant player is indeed Burke at 114.4. Stark difference. Offensively, Burke is at 106.2 while Exum is at 100.4. Gobert's is 99.4, while Kanter's is 108.0.

All the stats show that some haters' dream of seeing Kanter gone or being offered a QO and nothing more is just a dream.

Seems reasonable. Thanks.

Also got that from the "UNO" interviews with DL and Quin. Sometimes Lindsey loses his train of thought about mid-sentence. But at least he's a little more open than Kevin "No Comment" O'Connor. Fear is that Kanter will explode when he's 25-26. And I could see that. I've been a "hater" but will acknowledge Kanter IS getting better. You can never have too many good players. Sign a top wing with our cap space. Then re-sign Kanter for slightly more than his QO. If someone offers a ton of money, then the jazz regretfully let him go. And the board will melt down for DL not getting at least SOMETHING for Enes.
