I think Quin mishandled Exum in this stretch. They wanted him to be more aggressive, he was, but his D suffered a bit and instead of encouraging him and telling him "That's good, now put it all together and start playing D like you can", he decided to go punish him and yank him out of the game any time he made a mistake and after one of the games Quin said "he should stop looking for his offense and focus on D"... Really Quin? Really? We waited for 2 years for him to show some balls and attack the paint, we waited for him to realize he can go anywhere he wants on the floor and just as he was starting to experiment with moves in and around the paint you gonna punish him for it?
Let's remember his games prior to him getting in Quin's doghouse:
vs Miami - 10/3/1 3/10FG

vs Memphis - 9/3/2 4/9FG (pretty much everything here was him attacking the rim)

vs Chicago - 14/4/2 5/12 FG

vs Houston - 10/1/1 4/11 FG

vs Denver - 10/6/2 5/12 FG (again - everything here was him attacking the paint)

Again - those are the 5 games exactly before he was put in the doghouse. In every single one of those he had at least one finish at the rim. Watch those and tell me he was not attacking the rim. That's BS. I posted a while ago his drives stats - he made more finishes on drives in the first 15 games this year than during his entire rookie season. If there was something he was struggling with in that stretch it was knocking down the 3, not attacking the paint. Are those perfect games? Are they even great or good? Maybe not, but Shelvin Mack wasn't playing any better at that point. The difference is Quin treats Shelvin Mack like he's Steph Curry and Dante like a little child. How many times has he yanked him out after 1-2 minutes on the floor for a mistake or two? How many times has he done it to Mack after he dribbles the ball out of bounds without even facing pressure?
