Can we get one of the Williams to wear #8?

I just thought of something. Regardless of number, how will Mo's and Marvin's names on their jerseys be differentiated as they have the same first two letters of their first names? Would it be acceptable to show up as Mo Williams and Ma Williams? What did the Nets do with Shawne and Sheldon Williams last year? I need pictures of their jerseys.

Maybe that doesn't have to be differentiated any more. These are both from Feb. 2012, and both just say "Williams"

Mo said he was aware that some fans wanted him to choose #8, but it already taken by a Jazz player (J. Howard?).

Mo said his kids picked his number for him, I didn't hear why they picked #16.

I'm going to say it's an ode to Lance Moore of the Saints. Probably my favorite Saints player other than Brees.

I don't see the need to differentiate the names on the jersey. Mo is 6'0, Marvin is 6'9, only a moron would not be able to tell the two apart. Wait...I take that back, referees might get confused.

ESPN said:
For now, Williams plans to wear No. 16 -- disappointing all those Jazz fans who thought they might finally be able to recycle the No. 8 Deron Williams jerseys that became obsolete when the team traded the superstar point guard in February 2011.

Mo Williams said the number he has worn most of his career, 25, was already taken by center Al Jefferson, who hails from the same hometown of Jackson, Miss.

His children picked No. 16 because the digits add up to seven -- the size his family will be once the new baby arrives. It's news even his mother hadn't heard yet.

"It equals seven, but I wouldn't take No. 7 here because some famous guy wore that," Mo Williams quipped, standing beneath a jersey hung from the rafters that displayed Pistol Pete Maravich's name.

I was just thinking back to the days of two Malones on the Jazz. I believe their jerseys had their first initial on the back.

I remember Washington once had two guys called Michael Smith on their roster. They called one "Mike" in the media guide just to reduce the confusion. Dunno what they had on the back of their jerseys tho.

I will see if Google can come through for us.

As common of a name as Michael Smith is, basketball-reference (one of my favorite pages ever) only shows two Michael Smiths that played in the NBA and they were on different teams. It may be the case that maybe they only had both Michael Smiths in the preseason and one of them didn't make the final roster or something like that. One of the Michael Smiths did finish his career in Washington.

The other was officially renamed Mike Smith, remember: https://www.basketballreference.com/players/playerpage.htm?ilkid=SMITHMI03
