Can/Will Lyles make Favors expendable?

I'm ready to see this guys full potential. The stuff he did last year was a glimpse of a guy who can be a star forward in the league.

I'm ready to see some defense.
But to your question, no. Expect Favors to be solid, dependable, and constant double-double.

nah. completely different players, both helpful. the biggest problem will be paying both of them, but that decision won't have to be made for a few years.

One does not simply trade Derrick Favors
(Unless you get KAT, AD or KD in return)

No Klay, Kawhi or any top-15 player in your list? You must be really high on Derrick's ceiling. If there is a possibility to package him for a superior player you have to at least consider the trade.

Moving him for a wing would force subsequent trades for the Jazz, which would also mean the risk of getting less than what you ship away in those trades.

BTP, I totally disagree with your statement. Favors is just a borderline all-star. One which unfortunately may be very close to peaking due to his injuries. Offensively he is a good - but not great - shooter, who doesn't have a post game and hardly will drive to basket when facing it. On the other side of the floor, one might say that he is a better one-on-one defender at the 4 than the 5, due to his size; but a very good help defender at either position. If all this in mind, I would say that he is closer to being a Serge Ibaka than a vintage Dwight Howard. In other words, Favors seems much more like a complementary player than a building block. Lyles, on the other hand, seems to have the potential to be a go-to man offensively, but looks extremely passive defensively, which is very worrisome. For now, neither Favors or Lyles seem untouchable, IMO.

I didn't suggest to trade him for a wing.

I was pointing out that you overvalue him, well above players who are obviously better than him. He is a great player but in all honesty, he is close to his ceiling.

I love Favors but if Lyles develops, you at least must consider trading Favors down the line to get you top talent in return.

Not right now. His defense stinkss.

Play Gobert and Favors each 31 minutes a night (keep them fairly healthy and fresh) and Lyles and Diaw each 17, or something like that.

Lyles is very hit and miss and his defense so far has been horrible.
Favors is a top3 big when it comes to switching the PnR, an invaluable playoff skill. Breaking offensive sequences and holding your ground against guards is incredibly valuable. His rebounding is very good and his offense is very, very efficient.
He's a potential antidote to the Warriors and his contract means he's paid half than what he's worth considering he's in his 7th year now and turning 25 years old next week.
Trying to argue with Power Forward and Center position won't work with me. Basketball is a positionless game and if you're good and versatile enough you're better than a metagame. Favors is that.

The players you suggested were wings. If you trade him for one of those you have to also trade Hayward + Burks/Exum as a result. Are you confident you can get fair market value on Hayward's expiring and Exum/Burks post injury? I'm not.
