Can/Will Lyles make Favors expendable?

Lyles is coming for Favors starting job. I know Favors has amazing defense, but Trey is starting to show us what a true stretch 4 can do in this league. 20 years old, too. Man!

I'm glad Trey looks good and is showing improvement. I don't think he's going to challenge Favors for the starting job or run him out of town. This team has a DEFENSIVE identity that is unique due to the combination of Rudy Gobert and Derrick Favors. Flex is going to be a helluva stretch 4 and a guy who can space and spread when teams get smaller. All good things. But don't get ahead of yourselves. Wasatch Front will dominate this year, but not because of Lyles.

I don't think anyone has said Lyles will run Favors out of town. The salary cap will. You have to choose between Favors or Gobert.

Most people, including the Jazz, favor Gobert. That means that Lykes will hopefully take over for Favors when he leaves/is traded.

No one wants Favors to leave. But, it is what it is. We can't keep all of them.

Even GS will be a shell of itself next summer.

Post ups, floaters, three ball, mid range, drive and dunk, good handles, good passer.....
I'm trying to temper my expectations for next year a little bit but it's hard.

Im kind of hoping that our core guys stay healthy and that diaw and jj don't play much at all.

I want Gobert, favors, and lyles to get almost all of the 4/5 minutes.
I want hood, burks, and Hayward to get most all of the 2/3 minutes and hill and Exum to get all the pg minutes. I think those are our best guys currently and definitely the better players in the future and they still need developmental minutes.

If we stay healthy Quin gonna have his hands full figuring out rotations that keep everyone happy.

Anyone think Trey can eventually shift over to the 3 if Hayward isn't retained?
To early to say definitively in my opinion but I think there is a chance. A small one

My biggest concern was that Diaw would revert back to His pre-SA form. I was told by two different Jazz people that they really don't expect Diaw to play this year. That his trade was completely risk-free because if all goes well, he will be a minor minutes guys (5-10 a game).

I don't think he has the feet to play defense against NBA wings. With that said, I wouldn't mind seeing a lineup of Exum, Hayward, Lyles, Favors and Gobert just for fun. Long, lean and athletic. Would love it if that's the paradigm that other teams have to figure out how to matchup against. Don't think it's feasible though. More likely that Gobert/Favors start the games together, then split time at the 5, while Lyles/Johnson get minutes at the 4 until crunch time. Then you go with whatever lineup is working best to close out.

No. He's a three like Millsap was or Burks is a PG. he could play it for a couple mins, but he is a four. In that regard, he and Gobert are our least flexible players. Gobert is a five. Lyles is a four. That's it.

I'm hoping that they use the Diaw and Pleiss salaries to rent Rudy Gay after its clear that the Kings are out of the playoff mix. Asking price was too high before the draft, but they're clearly willing to move him and the cost goes down as the season progresses. Get to the playoffs able to roll out a lineup of

5 - Gobert / Favors
4 - Gay / Lyles
3 - Hayward / Johnson
2 - Hood / Burks
1 - Hill / Exum

The Kings should just admit they are out of the playoffs now. And by out of the playoffs I mean out for the next 5 years minimum.
