I always tell anyone who is thinking of getting a dog but arent sure what breed to get to just get a lab or a lab mix.
I think they are the best breed for a beginner. Generally low maintenance. Usually like almost everyone and everything.

Agreed. Golden retrievers are pretty easy, too.

Seriously, get a pomshit, or shitrainian, whatever. They are good little dogs, generally smart and good with people. Easy to care for. We have loved our little shitrainian.

We have had a couple of snakes over the years. My daughter has a ball python now, white. Cool looking snake. We had 2 snakes at the same time once and so we bred mice to feed them. That was brutal. Mice are horrible feral creatures. They eat their own young, kill each other, eat each other, even when we had plenty of food and a good environment for them to run around in. Nasty little ****ers.

We had a neighbor that had a python, I think, like a big one, 12 feet long or something. Once a month he would take it into the backyard and put it in a big pen and feed it rabbits, like 3 of them at a time. He invited all the neighborhood kids over if they wanted to watch (and their parents would let them, it could be brutal). Man was that fascinating. I would never want a snake that big, but it was crazy to see how this thing went from slowly moving across the grass like it was in slow motion to suddenly launching the front half of its body 6 feet to snatch one of the rabbits and coil around it. Crazy.

You missed the only right answer. Cats are evil demons from hell and should be exterminated. That is the one I would have voted for.

Otherwise, if I had to choose I would probably choose snakes, but dogs are a close second.

Our current cat has the horrifying habit of bringing injured rodents into the house and just leaving them there. Some die, others recover and end up in my house as a rat or mouse trying to set up a ****ing colony. I cannot express the depth of my loathing for cats.

We have a pom/shih-tzu mix...what is that a pom-**** or ****-rainian? Anyway, she is 13 years old and still pretty spry. She has been a good dog overall. Travelled with us to Germany too. I like to remind my oldest son that the dog has been in more countries than he has. lol

But after this dog dies, and we buy a house, we are giving the cat away and will be animal-free for a while at least. We are getting kind of tired of having animals around and arranging care for them if we just want to head out for a few day or go to visit family is a pain. As empty-nesters we want the one big advantage of that, mobility and travel. So no more pets for a while after these are gone.
We'll our doggo died today. She was a great little dog, lived to 14 years old just last month. Smart and cute. Here's a picture. I'm surprised how hard this has been. Of course there is a lot going on for us right now: I got laid off last month, my mom was in a severe accident just last week and had to be life-flighted to St George regional hospital and I've spent the entire weekend with her and my dad. Then this. I'm a wreck right now. Anyway, here is our precious Pugey. I may not post for a while. I feel overwhelmed right now.
