What's new

Celtics hire Brad Stevens :(

All signs point to a major rebuild (and tank) with Stevens coming in over a veteran NBA coach. Will see how well this sits with Rondo.

Rondo likes it. Stevens is a x's and o's guy and everybody knows it. The players (the good players) appreciate and respect a guy who knows wtf he's talking about.

I ****ing hate to agree with Beantown here. I really do. But the Jazz blew this one, IMO. Half of the question regarding Stevens was if he'd ever leave Butler, and he left for a stripped team whose best player is either an utterly toxic personality or doesn't have a best player.

Every instinct that was screaming to me that Thibodeau would be one of the best coaches in the NBA has been screaming at me about Stevens.

Maybe I'm wrong, and for the next year, it's likely that I will appear to be exactly that. But if Boston wins 41 games, he will have simultaneously achieved something great and also done the worst thing possible for the Celtics and I don't think that's preposterous, either.

This news seriously made me sad in my chest when I heard it. Transcendent coaches don't just grow on trees and now I will try to STFU and move on.

We're stuck with TyCo... the sooner you can accept that fact, the much better off you'll be. I know I have.

I don't know that I buy that. I think the Jazz have been giving him a last chance (dragging their feet) and just missed out.

Let me ask you this question - who would the Millers choose given the chance:

Most Loyal coach in the world VS Smartest coach in the world

Be honest.

There's more to the equation, especially seeing how this offseason has been playing out.

I believe Lindsey has been allowed to lead this operation and KOC/ownership's primary job is to say yes or no (and it sounds like they have been saying a lot of yes-es). I believe Lindsey's interests are doing what's smart. Besides, how exactly has Corbin shown great loyalty anyway? By, uhh... taking a head coaching job? Or by... interviewing for other head-coaching jobs at every opportunity before Sloan left and getting turned down by all of them?

By being buddy buddy with Greg Miller.

Huh?

Anyway, the Jazz have been doing Corbin all of the favors, not the other way around.

Meaning Corbin gets along well with the Millers and is a very good buddy of Greg Miller. He is someone they can trust. Kinda like your best friend. You don't need to question his intentions, he always has your best interest at heart. That's how the Jazz operates. The family concept is important to them.

How do you know literally any of this? Most importantly, what relevance would this have to running a business/team?

Well it's really just my intuition with everything that's happened:

- Ty had been with the Jazz in an assistant coach since 2004

- It has been well reported in the media that Ty and Greg get along really well

- Ty was given the HC job & contract without a coaching search

- At the press conference introducing Ty, Gail said "We had Sloan for LONG TIME, here's hoping you'll be with us for the same"

- The fact that the Jazz org. has preached loyalty time and time again as being very important to the franchise

Then this Summer, as far as I know, Ty was instrumental and/or had a hand in bringing in:

- Karl Malone (he acknowledged this in his phone call)

- Jerry Sloan (again, he acknowledged Ty in his phone call)

- Trey Burke (Dennis admitted it was Ty who pushed and pushed for Burke)

I dunno man, at the end of the day, it's just about gathering all the info I can and making a call. My conclusion is that the Miller family really value Ty as a person who had been with the Organization for nearly 10 years as an assistant coach & head coach, not counting the years he played here.

I think if Lindsey presented a case to the Millers to get rid of Ty in favor of established coach X,Y, or Z, they would ax him without hesitation.

I agree with Numb. My day went from being great (I was napping at the time), to sucky in about 5 minutes.

It does bother me that everyone pretends that Ainge is some sort of genius for thinking outside the box. If that's the case then a huge chuck of Jazzfanz are geniuses also.

Good work Geniuses!

And yet Ty Corbin still has a job.

And yet Vinnie DelNegro is still getting head coaching interviews.
