There's multiple legal/borderline illegal and illegal options to get NBA access:
Streaming sites that offer P2P content are basically illegal and unless you can make your software think that you're uploading even though you aren't you're also a content provider, you're theoretically a target. So yes , I'd probably use a proxy if I'd use that software.
Then there's normal flash streams(usually low quality) and you're obviously consuming the content w/o a license, but in practice none will care to prove that you consumed it.
Ballstreams is a borderline illegal case just like above. You're paying for a service in another country, where the authorities don't care that someone offers a service illegally and the NBA doesn't have reach to stop it. And if they had they'd just go after the provider.
Then there's the League Pass.
If you're in an area where geo tracking will black you out, you need to use a level 1 proxy. There's legal VPN services you can either freely access(unreliable mostly in terms of availability and stability) or you can purchase them for often 5/month and connect to it via their service. That way the NBA thinks you're wherever you got that service and won't black you out.
To make the League Pass cheaper, you can use certain foreign proxies while booking the option. For example Congo/India/Thailand are among the cheapest options to buy.
You have to book it there and once you're being redirected to your credit card service/paypal you have to deactivate your proxy before logging into that service(to avoid that your payment system suspects a security breach from abroad)
Then you can book it and have normal access like everyone else on League Pass.(You still have to use a VPN/Proxy if you're blacked out ofc)
Other than those there's your local options but since I'm not from the USA I don't know nothing about them and can't advise you there.
