What's new

Church of the Core 5 has risen!!!

Yup.
Core 5 start.
Burke has a 10 assist game.
Burke has most double-digit assist games of any rookie in franchise history.
We're tight through three quarters against a playoff team.
Gobert beasts.
We lose at the end.

Doesn't get better, this year, than that.

If the core 5 had been starting all season, I could really see them being like the Blazers last year.

The crazy thing about Ty's legacy is this:

The only thing Ty really had to prove to get another contract was showing he had a system that the young core could excel in. Instead of doing that, he tried to win with veterans hoping a playoff berth would get him another contract.

That alone is so shallow minded that you can't retain him. This is a team that needs future direction, development, not wins day to day. Ty can't see that, and Ty will be gone because of that.

If DL gets to make the call, yes. If the Millers make the call, no.

The core5 played a total of 17 minutes. They had an OffRtg of 113.4 and a DefRtg of 112.4 which means they got outscored by 1 point. Just one point against the fifth best team in the west. That's not that bad and if we take into account that they just played together for less than 80 minutes that is even more impressive.

The DefRtg is way too high but that should be fixed with more time together on the floor. The DREB% was right on the money with 75% and the OREB% was ELITE with 43.8%!

That was a nice first game! This season should've been so much more fun...

I asked this in a different thread, but what would your opinion be if Hayward was averaging 14pts, 5 rebounds, 5 assists on 44%fg?

don't those numbers mean they outscored them by 1 point?

One thing I believe that cost them this game was actually the coaching. Lillard getting hot lost them this game, but they weren't closing out on him with any urgency. I fault the coaching staff for this. As Harp said, Lillard is known to get streaky like that and the Jazz should've been prepared for that. You have to blame the coaches for not getting after Lillard after he made the first three.

The Blazers are a good team and our young guys haven't had much experience closing games out, so it was surprising. I gotta agree that we'd do better with a better coach.

Maybe the numbers were backward? That unit was indeed -1 for the game though according to popcornmachine

Wow, is there really three game threads?

I don't know if it is scheme or personnel. But the jazz defense had a hard time guarding the perimeter last night. It might hold for the initial pick, it sort of held if there was penetration or a pass but after that it was done. Blazers made three passes and there would be a Blazer wide open. Jazz couldn't close out quick enough.

So the jazz either have a scheme that pulls helpers too far away or the players are not physically capable of performing ion the scheme they use.

Here's an interesting stat for Burke fans. 40mins +3 on the night. The only Jazz player with a positive +/-.

I really think you Jazz fans have a really good PG moving forward. You expect him to shot the ball more accurately and play better defense as he gets more physically adjust to the NBA. That's the two biggest weaknesses this season. I think he'll get to the line more when/if the offense is run through him as it appears it should.

Of course you do.

At least I have something factual to back it up when I find fault and not just say they suck. By the way, I used to be a music critic and arts reviewer, so I know that when you criticize something, you need to have something to support your criticism, otherwise your opinion is worthless.

Yeah I was really expecting this to turn into a game thread, but what can I do. This thread is for the appreciation of the core5 playing together.
