Cody Williams Hype and Appreciation Thread

Cody Williams = Cam Reddish
That is the literal perfect comparison. Looks the part but just can't ever consistently perform

Last two games Cody has made actual basketball moves to get to the basket. He seems to have found a higher gear on his drives instead of just driving at half-speed and losing the ball before he can even get into a scoring motion, which is a huge improvement.

Also, Tidjane Salaun has been really really really bad, so at least Cody isnt currently the worst top 10 pick from the 2024 draft.

Some nice highlights by the young guys here. Cody's main skill offensively is getting downhill and using his length to finish at a high rate. He can still do those things against other guards and some wings. Big defenders have been turning him back though. At 1:10, Jerami Grant forced Cody to pass out on one of his drives, which happened to be an assist on a 3PA. At 1:38, Cody is able to get by Scoot for a bucket.

Cody had several nice passes at full speed in this game.

wrong thread, but I like how Flip is moving his feet on D.

Cody's been making enough of his 3s lately to generally hold up the '3' side of a 3D-wing role. He needs to be on-balance and leaning in a bit to shoot accurately, so it's mostly off the catch and not a super quick release. He also guards 2s and 3s well enough to stave off their drives for the most part. More physical strength will help his confidence on the defensive side.

It doesn't look like the Jazz are inclined to bring their offense to a halt while Cody tries to deal off the dribble. I'd like to see the Jazz hit Cody on cuts more than they do. Filipowski has been able to do it a few times. Cody would benefit from playing with guys who are more willing passers. Guys like Juzang, Sensabaugh, Svi, Clarkson and Lauri just aren't very interested in getting off the ball.

Cody would benefit from being better at basketball and making better cuts. Guys find him all the time. He has to do more. The Jazz being a so-so passing team has nothing to do with Cody's lack of production.

You are seriously blind if you think Cody is doing anything on the court where guys are missing him.

Dude, he goes 5 mins at a time without touching the ball on offense, while guys like Svi, Brice and Juzang dribble in circles. He had 3 shot attempts last night. One was a live grenade with 2secs on the shot clock. One was a loose ball he picked up off a dropped inbounds pass for a layup. The other was a designed play at the beginning of the 3rd quarter that he bricked.

Cody is clearly an afterthought on offense right now.

So the Jazz should just give Cody the ball and what? We've seen what happens. He dribble nowhere and passes a grenade off. He's an afterthought for a reason. He makes everyone worse on offense.

Are you implying that the Jazz are trying to avoid being worse on offense?! They are full-throttle tanking and Walter Kessler is launching threes. Cody needs touches and opportunities to keep developing and that should be prioritized instead of feeding Svi and Juzang.

Walker can shoot the ball. I dont mean he's good at it, but he can get a shot off. Cody cant dribble against any kind of pressure. There's a difference.

This idea that it’s the Jazz holding Cody back and not Cody’s ability holding him back is really funny to me. This is chicken/egg question, but the answer is obvious….Cody really stinks atm and that’s why he’s not very active on offense. You need a baseline ability to even compete at this level and be able to involve yourself in the game, but Cody is far from it.
