Welcome to Colton's 2013 Mock Draft Compilation, v. 4.0. Last compilation before the draft.

Here are who the mock drafts are listing as the "best players". See below for details. It should give a pretty good idea of who will be available when the Jazz pick at 14 and 21.

1 Nerlens Noel
2 Ben McLemore
3 Otto Porter
4 Alex Len
5 Victor Oladipo
6 Anthony Bennett
7 Trey Burke
8 C.J. McCollum
9 Michael Carter-Williams
10 Kentavious Caldwell-Pope
11 Cody Zeller
12 Steven Adams
13 Shabazz Muhammad
14 Sergey Karasev
15 Kelly Olynyk
16 Shane Larkin
17 Dennis Schroeder
18 Giannis Adetokunbo
19 Mason Plumlee
20 Gorgui Dieng
21 Jamaal Franklin
22 Lucas Nogueira
23 Rudy Gobert
24 Tim Hardaway Jr.
25 Tony Mitchell
26 Reggie Bullock
27 Allen Crabbe
28 Jeff Withey
29 Ricky Ledo
30 Glen Rice Jr.

On the first round bubble: Tony Snell, Erick Green, Isaiah Canaan, Livio Jean-Charles, Nate Wolters

Misc observations:

1. The movement that had Len go #1 has subsided a bit, but not completely. 15/25 of the mocks now have Noel going #1 and 7/25 have Len at #1.

2. Len still has the widest spread of any in the top 10, going anywhere from #1 to #9.

3. McLemore has dropped in some of the mocks… now he goes anywhere from #2 to #9. My opinion: if the Jazz could trade #14 and #21 to pick up McLemore (which is a definite possibility if he is still there at #7, #8, or #9) it would be a steal.

4. C.J. McCollum has also dropped in some of the mocks, and one mock now thinks he will be available when the Jazz pick at #14. I doubt it, though.

5. Shabazz Muhammad, on the other hand, really might drop to the Jazz at #14. 12/25 mocks now think he will be available at #14. And strangely enough, all 12 of those have the Jazz passing on him.

6. Unless Muhammad falls and the Jazz do snag him, the Jazz will almost certainly pick one of these at #14:
a. Sergey Karasev
b. Kelly Olynyk
c. Giannis Adetokunbo
d. Shane Larkin
e. Gorgui Dieng
f. Dennis Schroeder
g. Rudy Gobert

7. Schroeder is the most popular choice for the Jazz at #14, with 10/25 mocks having the Jazz taking him there.

8. Schroeder is *also* the most popular choice for the Jazz at #21, with 4/25 mocks having the Jazz taking him there.

9. Larkin is an interesting case, going anywhere from #13 to #27. Five mocks have the Jazz picking him at #14. Seven mocks think he will still be available at #21—but only three of those actually have the Jazz picking him at #21. I have a hard time believing the Jazz would pass if he is still there at #21.

10. Assuming Larkin doesn’t fall to #21, the Jazz will likely be choosing between these players with that pick. All but two of them should be available at #21.
a. Mason Plumlee
b. Jamaal Franklin
c. Gorgui Dieng
d. Rudy Gobert
e. Tim Hardaway Jr.
f. Lucas Nogueira
g. Tony Mitchell
h. Reggie Bullock
i. Allen Crabbe

11. The “wild card” winners are: Muhammed (anywhere from 7 to 19), Karasev (anywhere from 12 to second round), Giannis (anywhere from 10 to second round), and Gobert (anywhere from 7 to 29).

Ranking details: I used the following mock drafts as "voters" for the best players. That is, I assumed they ranked the players in the order that they felt like the players deserved to be drafted. (This is an incorrect assumption, because some mock drafts account for perceived team need, but it should be close.) Then I used the "instant run-off voting" algorithm in a program I wrote to deduce who deserved to be ranked in the top spot, then in the second spot, then in the third spot, and so forth. See here for details on that algorithm: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Instant-runoff_voting

I'm OK with that.

Honestly, I'd rather have Schroeder & Franklin (that's who I had in my mock), but I wouldn't be unhappy with Karasev & Franklin.

=========================

Great news re McCollum btw. As much as I love Schroeder, I'd probably take McCollum in front of him. McCollum & Franklin would be BAWESOME.

yes

I'll guess
#14 - MCW
#21 - Babe

a little optimistic, but I think we will see some surprise picks.

The only way MCW slips to us, is if someone picking before us falls in love with these 2:

1. Karasev

2. Giannis

I think there is a good chance Portland rolls the dice with one of these 2. They took a chance before with Batum, Giannis seems to have just as much upside.

If Portland takes, say Giannis, then:

11. Zeller
12. Adams
13. Bazz/McCollum (depending who falls)
14. MCW

Bump. No more comments on my 11 observations?

I'll rep you for all your work. If your comments hold true, I probably WILL finish last. I took a gamble, just to be different, that perhaps Noel wouldn't go #1 because teams like Cleveland and Orlando would want to show immediate improvement. McLemore possibly sliding hurts me. I do find the comments regarding Schroeder interesting. The wide range does indicate that there isn't much separation from about 13 to mid 20's. A couple of trades might really shake up the board.
