Welcome to Colton's Mock Draft Compilation, 6.0. Here are who the mock drafts are listing as the "best players". See below for details. It should give a pretty good idea of who will be available when the Jazz pick.

4 Brandon Knight (6)
5 Jan Vesely (4)
6 Kemba Walker (5)

8 Bismack Biyombo (7)
9 Kawhi Leonard (10)
10 Alec Burks (9)
11 Donatas Motiejunas (11)
12 Tristan Thompson (12)
13 Marcus Morris (13)
14 Jimmer Fredette (14)
15 Jordan Hamilton (15)
16 Markieff Morris (16)

22 Tyler Honeycutt (22)
23 Lucas Noquiera (24)
24 Josh Selby (28)
25 Trey Thompkins (26)
26 Nikola Mirotic (23)

Ranking details: I used the following mock drafts as "voters" for the best players. That is, I assumed they ranked the players in the order that they felt like the players deserved to be drafted. (This is an incorrect assumption, because some mock drafts account for perceived team need, but it should be close.) Then I used the "instant run-off voting" algorithm in a program I wrote to deduce who deserved to be ranked in the top spot, then in the second spot, then in the third spot, and so forth. See here for details on that algorithm: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Instant-runoff_voting

Changes from v 5.0: I only used mock drafts which had been updated since May 10, which eliminated four of the previously-used mock drafts. Ten of the ones used were updated since the last compilation. Eight of them have even been updated post-lottery.

Picture changes now. I realize this is a consensus poll, but Cavs would be dumb to take two point guards. Barring a pick trade, Knight is falling from 4th unless Cleveland passes on Kyrie.

Jazz are in a really good spot right now.

they have a mock too. If you're interested in adding it to the compilation.

If we still had Sloan I would love to have Knight. Sloan was the master at developing PG's who where willing to learn.

Why is everybody ready to just give up on Devin Harris? Why draft a PG when that isn't a major need.

No one said anything about giving him up. Guess what? Harris is VERY injury prone. You want Harris going down and have Watson be the starter the whole year with someone like Ronnie Price backing him up?

Harris has missed games be he hasn't really ever missed huge chunks of seasons. Watson is alright. Price just isn't NBA caliber anymore. Jazz need another backup pg.

I have to admit I don't see the huge appeal of Brandon Knight. Granted I've not watched more than highlight videos, but nothing he does seems the least bit extraordinary. I would rather take Kanter or Williams since Irving will be gone.

I did see him play and he's good. He made some clutch shots down the stretch in the tourney. But you're right, he isn't top 3 worthy - even in this sorry draft. I think a lot of people are idealizing him.

Makes me wonder if the Cavs go Dwill and then take Knight at number 4?

Irving and Williams will be gone. Kanter or Knight...but why Kanter? We have Favors, Millsap, Jefferson and Memo. Id much rather pull tha Phx trade and pick up Lopez, Peitrus and there 13th pick for Millsap. Draft Knight, Singleton, and Jimmer and call it an amazing draft.

Harris, Knight, Jimmer
Hayward, Miles
Singleton, Petruis
Favors, Lopez
Jefferson, Memo

You talk about him as though he's not a finished product. So I'll offer what I think are obvious reasons;

1) He'll be the 3rd highest paid player (you could argue 2nd highest considering length of contract) on the team.
2) He's a pedestrian shooter, and that's being nice.
3) He's a good but not great play-maker.
4) His game is primarily reliant on his raw speed.
5) He's not really young (28!), but in his prime and appears to have already crested (two seasons ago, and that was with another perimeter threat that the Jazz don't really have). Considering the team is going to be getting A LOT younger over the next couple of years, if he's kept around, he'll be well on his decline (speed doesn't age well [see point 4]) as the other pieces are coming together. He can't really be the PG of the future for this team.
6) He ultimately didn't seem to change the fortunes of the Mavericks or the Nets very much one way or another.
7) He's an above-average player that has some positive trade value. I've heard a lot of rumor of the Blazers and Mavericks being high on him. If Harris can basically net you Matthews (And maybe Miller too?), ****ing do it.

Don't really disagree with a lot of this.
Never said he was a superstar. He doesn't have a horrendous contract. 8-9 for a decent starter isn't abnormal. He seems like a viable option for the next 3 years to me. I was commenting more on how people are wanting Knight over him.

I'd do the Miller/Matthew for Harris trade. I doubt Portland would though.

Here's David Aldridge's mock from this morning:

https://www.nba.com/2011/news/features/david_aldridge/05/16/mock-draft/?ls=iref:nbahpt1

He has us picking Valanciunas........

If we did not have to wait years for him to come over it might make some sense, but with Kanter coming over immidiately the chances of Jonas V going before Kanter as we know are very small. There are scouts who view Jonas as the intl guy with the most upside. Jimmer going at 30 is pretty ridiculous unless he blows in workouts.

Utah Jazz | Jonas Valanciunas | C | Lietuvos Rytas

Too much talent and potential to pass up; the Jazz have to replace the fading Mehmet Okur and give Derrick Favors a partner in crime up front.

You mean besides Millsap & Jefferson?

Why is everybody ready to just give up on Devin Harris? Why draft a PG when that isn't a major need.

No one is giving up on Harris. Knight is not ready to start yet. Harris is. Harris might only have a couple very good years left in him. Knight will probably be very, very good in a couple of years. Knight is big enough to play Harris and Knight at the same time ala Dallas. There are a ton of reasons why Harris and Knight will be very good for Utah.
