I've often liked David Thorpe's comments and insights on ESPN. He said a few things in passing in his most recent chat that caught my attention and seem relevant to the Jazz. I'm just passing them along. Wouldn't surprise me if there are disagreements. The last comment is relevant to how the Jazz have been finishing close games lately.

will alec burks become a legitimate starter?

David Thorpe (12:25 PM)
It's not likely, but it is possible.

You and others have mentioned that Kobe has the best footwork in the league today (at least on offense). Which big (Center/ Power Forward) has the best footwork on offense and defense?

David Thorpe (12:54 PM)
Al Jefferson in the post is a work of art.

2 min left in the game, you can put the ball in the hands of any player to win a game for you team. All other things aside, who do you want taking over in the last 2 minutes?

David Thorpe (12:48 PM)
I want CP3 running actions for my team-I want the best shot possible by any good player, not a bad shot from my best player.

I read the same thing and all of those comments surprised me for different reasons.

I also want to point out that Thorpe believes that Marcus Morris (Houston Rockets) will be a very special player in this league. Something doesn't add up.

I do think Burks will be a legitimate starter but it will take a couple of years. Al is great in the post...don't know about being a work of art. And on the last one, with our team's current roster I want Watson running the plays and Millsap taking a good shot. Like we saw last night though, a good player (Al) taking a bad shot (for him) doesn't work.

I disagree with him about Burks. Kid's been showing some great promise and lately has seemed to stop stupiding himself off the court.

Not a legitimate starter -- what is he nuts? Maybe he's referrring to this season. Burks has legitimate future All-Star talent.

The Burks hype on this board continues to remind me of those who salivated all over Ronnie B. Hope he is better but it could still go either way. The man has to learn what a good shot is.

David Thorpe was the guy who thought Fesenko was going to become a beast. He pimps the players he trains more than others.

I doubt Thorpe has watched Burks at all this year. He is just going with the odds of a #12 pick being an impact player, which are pretty low.

In his credit, Al does have some beautiful low post moves. I wish Kanter/Favors could do the stuff he does on offense.

I'm just mad the way he answered that Burks question...its as if he never has seen Burks play and just predicts a late lottery pick won't pan out.

Thorpe was on the Fesenko bandwagon. But he jumped off about a year ago screaming, "Grow up you idiot." Fess has the physical tools but his brain is made of jello.

On the Burks thing- Alec has the physical tools. He needs to improve his defensive smarts and greatly improve his shooting. There no need to try and be chest to chest with guards 35 feet from the hoop. Play a step off and react.
