What's new

Congratulations: Kanter wins ESPN Midseason Rookie Award

This kid has been the high-point of the season for me. I expected very little from him this year. Seriously, he's doing all this stuff without a training camp or a defined role on the team, and, despite this, he's a year or two ahead of schedule.

Anybody that would trade him in a deal for Rondo is a ****ing tard.

Sweet! His rebounding is like watching a "Kanter in a Bull shop"...or is it a "Chinese man in a Kanter shop"...or is it a "Kanter man in a China shop"...wait I got it, he's like a "Bull in a Kanter shop"...yeah, that's the one.

In one thread I get the feeling that we should get rids of Kanter and anything else that we need to in order to get Rondo.

Orangello- We need the skills that Rondo has. But we don't need what else Rondo brings. Isn't it a warning to you that the Celtics are not dying to keep him? There just
has to be a reason that he is not a part of their plans for the future. Why should we give up our own future to obtain him?

Totally convinced this is a TRUE statement. My only concern is the Jazz are trying to turn him into the prototypical Jazz center. He has been consistently left open near the
free throw line ( not a surprise for large bodied rookie centers, they are left open until they prove they can stick it from there) and just as consistently he passes the shot, when
i know he can shoot well from there. Why? It's apparent he has been told not to shoot it from there and being an obedient young man, does so. Is this a threat to the
Jazz way of life if their center takes 2-3 jump shoots from 15 feet? Apparently so. They don't want another Memo. But i am not saying he should be another Memo. Just take the
easy jumpers when presented with the opportunity.

Prototypical jazz center? Sure we've had a handful of Decent(I'm being modest) centers, but Big Al disprove's your statement. He takes multiple shots a game from 10-18 feet out. I think its more on Kanter not wanting to take the shot. He has taken them before, but i think he is still a bit uncomfortable, being that he hasn't played real competitive ball for 2 years. My biggest issue with him, is that he needs to finish quicker, instead of bringing the ball down first and waiting. Being patient is a good quality, but he needs to learn (and he will) when to go up quick. Like others have said, his offensive game will gradually become apparent through time. Kanter has, IMHO, one of the best offensive mentors for big men. Just look at what Kevin Love and what he has become over the years. This is what i see with Kanter in his career, maybe not as good, but a similar style of game.

He's also doing all of this as a 19 year old in a new city while still learning a new language and dealing with the media. Good for him.

So i am a little conflicted right now. In one thread I get the feeling that we should get rids of Kanter and anything else that we need to in order to get Rondo. Now I read this thread and everyone can't wait to see this guys future.

Although this site often feels like one collective bowl of poop soup, there are lots of different posters with lots of different opinions. You've got people with six packs like Trout and Craig2112 and then you have me.

Powshredder- Don't disagree with anything you said. Jefferson was a proven scorer from that range when he arrived here. 15 ft and in, not as good from beyond that. Jefferson is not the prototypical Jazz center
i referred to, and is probably not long for Utah. If Big Al played some defense, well, we would probably be a lot happier with him. Offensively Big Al is best in Iso situations and that is certainly not Jazz BB. All that
said, i like Jefferson a lot (his attitude especially).

tonstermits- All true except for the "learning new language" thing. I believe he was most certainly an English speaker as a second language for years as many young Turks are today. But certainly deserves big appreciation
for his adaptability.

Nice. He's going to help us a lot, and he definitely needs more playing time. For him, he gets to play for the team he watched growing up. Doesn't get any better than that.

absolutely right! when enes took a shot from mid-range matt harpring said: "it was way off his range." that's not true. he is not an "andrew bynum" type center (just an example). its all about confidence. when he fully earns, he will be a serious threat in the offensive end. he is not a putback man on the offense! but anybody can block him (for now)... should be quicker.

Nice to see this! Hopefully his confidence soars in the second half of the season. I hope he starts to make that little 15-18 foot jumper consistently and learns how to make the pass from the top of the key (he seems reluctant to pass; lack of confidence). If he adapts to the speed of the game, we should see some amazing things from #0. Forget "the world is his oyster"; the world is his Kantershop!

No.. at least personally anyway - I've been saying all along that we should keep both Favors & Kanter - then draft Lillard..
