"In 1992 the Food and Drug Administration decided that genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are the functional equivalent of conventional foods. They arrived at this decision without testing GMOs for allergenicity, toxicity, anti-biotic resistance and functional characteristics. As a result hundreds of millions of acres of GMO crops were planted in America without the knowledge or consent of the American people: no safety testing and no long term health studies.

“The FDA has received over a million comments from citizens demanding labeling of GMOs. Ninety percent of Americans agree. So, why no labeling? I’ll give you one reason: The influence and the corruption of the political process by Monsanto. Monsanto has been a prime mover in GMO technology, a multi-million dollar GMO lobby here and a major political contributor.

“There is a chance that Monsanto’s grip will be broken in California where a GMO labeling initiative is on the ballot. And here in Congress, my legislation HR 3553 will provide for a national labeling law. Americans have a right to know if their food is genetically engineered. It’s time for labeling and for people to know how their food is being produced.”

The congressman announces this legislation on the heels of a recent unprecedented longterm GMO feeding study, in which rats developed tumors, multiple organ damage and a whole host of other medical issues.

The world's best-selling weedkiller, and a genetically modified maize resistant to it, can cause tumours, multiple organ damage and lead to premature death, a new study has revealed. Its results are published in The Food & Chemical Toxicology Journal in New York. Here, experts discuss the significance of the findings.

Too much aluminum in your armpits.

I thought that was flouride? After all these chemicals that Big Brother injected me with, don't ask where, it all gets confusing.

If you listen to the complete version of his speech you will hear that he specifically calls out Stoked as one of the most demanding of Americans, so I think that you must be right about the Alzheimer's. Maybe it's as a result of eating all that genetically engineered food.

Probably. I do eat out a lot. I personally am keeping McDonalds, KFC, Arbys, Del Taco, Panda Express, Quiznos, Carls Jr., Subway, Taco Bell and Burger King in business.

Everyone is for GMO labelling until they find out the cost associated with providing this information will be passed on to the consumers. Then very few people are for it. Estimates are as high as $500 a year for a family of 4 (about 10% of their average food bill).

This country is hopelessly addicted to hoarding as much **** as cheaply as possible - this is no different.

This is where we move to the George Carlin "Sauteed Raccoons ******** On A Stick" bit.

I'd be interested to find out how much cost was passed onto the consumer when the government mandated food companies to include nutrient information, and an ingredients list on all food.

I actually have an italian friend of mine than conducted an experiment in his restaurant in Italy on 6 dinner parties, 3 of them italian and 3 of them American tourists.
Whatever all six of them ordered, he just served them American TV dinners all doctored up and restaurant presented.

Turns out, all 3 Italian parties sent there food back, claiming the food was completely inedible and demanded their money back.
Whereas all 3 American tourist parties claimed they received great service and excellent food, and 1 of them actually sent complements to the chef.

Pretty interesting how American food palates have been changed by food additives and chemicals over time.
