What's new

Conley to start soon.

I wouldn't be surprised if Conley starts tonight, there isn't really a better matchup to try it against than Dame & CJ McCollum - a 6'2 and 6'3 guard vs a 6'1" and 6'1" guard. The height advantage is minimal, and Dame has a 6'8" wingspan, CJ has a 6'6" wingspan while Conley's is 6'6" and Donovan's is 6'10".

The two point guard experiment seems to have worked very well in Portland.

Except it did not... Por is a team that struggles in the playoffs every year cuz of their midget backcourt. You need to have elite front court like Toronto last year to make up for such deficiency

Conley was really good in Dave Joerger's offense. Perhaps Quin can try and replicate some of those plays when Conley is on the floor.
Unfortunately I don't think we have the pieces(big men that can score outside of the painted area) to mimic such system. Conley’s driving space is taken away with Rudy’s presence in the paint.

Perhaps pair him with Morgan. He has shown he can knock down the outside shot at least with the Stars. That would mean Mikey would be coming off the bench.

Yup, but I think it has to do with his strenght, height and jumping ability, not quickness. He's never been able to go through people. He get pushed around due to his size. Thats why he honed a killer ambidextrous floater over the years (not falling this year though). If his floater is gone then he has no way to score inside (except at the ft line, something unlikely as he ages)

Edit: almost everyone on the Jazz uses a screen to create separation/advantage. It's our offense and how we should use the best screener in the league.

the screen issue wasn’t meant to take a very important role in my criticism. I understand it’s a part of our offense. However, Conley was supposed to be able to create his own shot. Especially on nights when Mitchell might be struggling. And I have yet to see him be able to do this. Largely due to his lack of athleticism.

I’m not Going to get into strength, quickness, or jumping ability. My issues are:

1. His lack of size. Many pointed this out over the offseason how he and Mitchell together would make us very small.
2. His lack of athleticism. He appears to have lost a step to me. Whether that’s due to Age or injury, it doesn't matter.
3. His poor shooting.
4. His seemingly inability to mesh with the team. Whether that’s due to injury, it doesn’t matter. He hasn’t shown the ability to be effective as a Non-ball dominant Guard. This makes us a worse team because we’re better when jingles and Mitchell are handling the ball.

Again, I can’t be the only one noticing the similarities between Burke and Conley’s inability to create their own shots, finish inside, or consistently score from the perimeter, right?

This is what most of us got wrong about Conley. We thought Conley could be our version of CJ McCollum or Lou but Conley is not really in the same conversation with these guys in terms of shot creating. Hes more of a pick and roll scorer who heavily relies on the big man setting the screen and creating the space cuz he can't consistently beat his man off the dribble or drain shots in defenders face like we've seen with mudiay's fadeaway jumper. He needs an offense set up for him to get going

Sorry to come off as a jerk but you're talking out of your *** here and just making stuff up. Yes he's a pick and roll guy but to say he struggles or can't create is flat out false.

Lol Mudiay didn't do a single thing last game btw. I'm not hating on the guy as I don't believe for a second the loss was on him and I think he has a role but some of you dudes wouldn't know a double standard if it hit you in the face. I mean Conley put up 12 points(some driving the lane, I know at least one floater) and was crucified by some, Mudiay puts up 0 pts and 3 rebounds and people are saying that helped? Lol.
