I was suggesting that his ceiling is that of a backup or change of pace PG, I don't think he's there yet. On the first page of this thread one person suggested that he would be a starter on multiple NBA teams (and others seemed to agree). My impression from reading this (and many other) thread is that JazzFanz REALLY like this guy. If anything, I think he could be a minor upgrade over Trey. I'm hoping that Neto develops into a solid backup for us over Cotton.

there was one person saying that. And he admitted to being a fan of Cotton and not the Jazz. Everybody else is arguing that he's better than Burke. I don't care who develops into a solid backup. Neto's trouble with that role is his utter lack of an outside shot. Something a PG on this team will need with Favors and Gobert as the starting PF/C.

Quickness+handle=separation=open look. As long as he can continue to get free and open looks for his jumper, I believe his shooting % will be respectable. Today is the third game in as many days, and 7th game in just 10 days. It would have been nice to get a bye and a little rest. It also would have helped to have Hood playing as well.

Many of us do really like him.

Between burke and Cotton imo

Shooting - equal
Passing - equal
Attitude - Cotton
D - equal (?)
Speed - Cotton
Pace - Cotton

So I think he would be a moderate upgrade for this team. This team will excel with a PG that pushes the pace. It allows the young Jazz players to use their legs and athleticism.

I'd love to see Cotton flying down the court with Burks streaking down the baseline, Hayward on the wing and a trailing Gobert/Favors.

Cotton will fit this team much better than Burke imo.
 
Even though Lindsey said they might carry 4 PG's, he really could not say anything different. They have three point guards signed. If he says they will carry 3, it's the same thing as telling Cotton and Hanlan, via the media, that they will not be signed. So he pretty much has to say something that won't send that message to them. I would look for Burke to show up at training camp determined to keep his job as backup. I don't think it's a secret that Lindsey and Snyder prefer a backup that can drive the pace like Cotton. But the investment is in Burke. It should be quite the intense competition among the guards after Exum during training camp.

Yep, I'm looking forward to seeing that a time or two as well:-). One of the previews of last night's game suggested the Jazz would need Cotton to assume his Alan Iverson avatar if the Jazz were going to beat the Suns. Didn't happen. Be so much more fun to watch with those guys racing down court.....
 
I think Burke, when he isn't shooting a ton, makes his teammates better than Cotton.

I think Burke is better in the PNR also.

"Bryce Cotton is on a non-guaranteed contract for the Utah Jazz for this upcoming season, so to say the past two weeks have been important is an understatement. Luckily for him, he's been performing extremely well.

Few players on this level can keep Cotton out of the paint, as the diminutive point guard is a veritable blur with the ball in his hands. But while he's always had that lightning quickness, Cotton has done a better job of slowing things down and reacting to what the defense gives him. If he can keep doing that in preseason and in training camp, he's going to force the Jazz's hand. Right now, they already have three point guards under contract in Dante Exum, Trey Burke and Raul Neto. But with Exum having the ability to play off ball and Burke being maddeningly inconsistent so far in his career, having an explosive guy like Cotton who can give you something different might make a lot of sense.

Right now, this kid looks like an NBA player. Whether he ends up playing for the Jazz or somewhere else is a question, but Cotton has been one of the unmitigated successes of Summer League this year."

Well I don't think he played the last 9 min of the 4th quarter (coincidentally when the Suns started to pull away...)
 
@GoFriars, here's a Utah writer who kinda agrees with your very high opinion of Cotton. In fact, from a Utah fan perspective, this is the highest praise I've seen yet. Bound to seem overboard to some. But who knows?
