Could the Jazz get the second pick? (not a rumor)

to get top-tier talent worthy of contending for titles, you pretty much have to take some risks somewhere along the line.

i've said it before, but if jefferson is all it costs to upgrade a 2013 7-14 pick to a 2012 2-8 pick, the jazz should do that and run. if jefferson + burks allows you to make that upgrade, you have to think about it. why? here's why:

1) a 2-8 pick this year > a 7-14 pick next year (the GS pick)
2) whoever we would pick this year would probably also be better than burks
3) not having al jefferson > having al jefferson, at least in the medium to long term

yup.

It would probably have to be something like Burks, Jefferson for Thomas and the pick. If the bobcats would do the g.s. pick and Jefferson for the 2 and Thomas, I'd make that trade

nah, probably not thomas. why would they want to ship back one of the young, talented guys they have if the whole point is to stockpile young talent? i know TT is a bit of a headcase, but i can't imagine they're ready to give up on him.

my guess is something like diop and carroll: almost 11M worth of pretty much dead weight, but at least they're expiring. that said, bobcats don't don't really need to send much salary back at all, but i still bet if they could force us to eat those two bad contracts, that sweetens the deal.

just checked to make sure i wasn't crazy. diop and carroll were two of their three lowest MPG guys last year, so i'm sure they're not looking forward to paying them a combined 11M.

that said, TT only averaged 19 mpg (although he was the starter for 30 games). so maybe i'm wrong and he's not that big a part of their plans. his contract is certainly a millstone for a guy averaging 9 and 4.
