Ellis269's case:

Key Matchups for my team. . .

LeBron James vs. Trevor Ariza = 25.1 ppg vs. 8.2 ppg (LeBron kills Ariza)
LeBron James vs. Boris Diaw = 26.1 ppg vs. 8.9 ppg (LeBron kills Diaw)
Kenneth Faried vs. Pau Gasol = 16.0 ppg vs. 18.1 ppg (Nearly even)
Greg Monroe vs. Marcin Gortat = 10.6 ppg vs. 10.0 ppg (Almost dead even)
Kobe Bryant vs. Monta Ellis = Will Kobe even be healthy enough to finish the season?
Knee? Ankle? Wrist? Achilles tendon? Something new?
Derrick Rose vs. Jeff Teague = This is the matchup that is rough on me. . . if Rose if fully healthy and playing up to form, he wins this matchup handily. . .

Ultimately, this matchup will come down to LeBron James (and role players) vs. Derrick Rose (and role players). LeBron James has had the clear edge in this matchup, even before D-Rose blew out his knee and then messed up the meniscus - basically costing him two full seasons.

In twenty-one Head-to-Head matchups between the two, LeBron James has averaged 28.5 points per game, with 3 games of 40+ points and 8 games of 30+ points, plus he never scored less than 15 points in a single game, while Derrick Rose averaged 20.7 points per game, with no games of 40+ points and only 2 games of 30+ points. . . oh. . . and he was held to under 15 points five times, with games of 14, 13, 12, 3 and 2 points - ouch! D-Rose only outscored LeBron 3 times out of those 21 matchups.

In those 21 games, LeBron won more than twice as many of them as well, 14 - 7 total wins, with an impressive 8 - 2 playoff record.

QSH might have the better bench (at this point) but ¾ of his team is either getting old or frequently injured (or both). My team is younger, more athletic and ascending, while his team is much older, much (much, much) more injured and several are descending in their careers. My reserves are untested, but they’re all extremely athletic, young kids who have solid defensive potential. The Greek Freak, Noel, Gordon and Exum would make a solid young core for a defensive-minded team down the road. They still need a shooter, but they can cut and slice through the defense to get to the basket and/or draw fouls. The trick is to mix in their minutes with four of the starters, so they’re not overwhelmed.

I lack outside shooting, but so does QSH’s team. None of his players are more of a threat to go off from downtown than any of mine. I have the best player in the game and an athletic group to support him. My team would have to play fast basketball with an emphasis on points in transition. If my opponents can slow it down to a half-court game, we switch to P&R with the idea to get the ball into LeBron’s hands as much as possible. Defense is more suspect than I’d like, but not downright awful either.

Looking at QSH’s team, the thing that jumps out at me is that he has so many oft-injured players that he can’t count on consistent performances from his group as a whole. Look at what the injury situation in L. A. did to the Lakers the past two seasons (count both Kobe and Pau as part of that problem). IMO - that’s the kind of team that he’s looking at. I’d get my young, athletic players to play rough and foul the hell out of his old or injured players. I’d force them to keep up with that for the whole series. I think that it would allow LeBron and company to play fast and mean, while guys like Kobe, Pau, Rose and Holiday would possibly be tentative to avoid getting injured yet again

QSH's team has too many question marks. Will Rose ever be anywhere near as good as he was before the injuries? How about Kobe? Does Pau still have enough gas in the tank? Ellis's team on the other hand has Lebron.

Ellis, our starters are close. I think mine are clearly better but you could definitely argue yours are and not be wrong. My bench however would literally outscore yours by about 20 a game. I win. Fairly easily imo.

The problem with your bench is that they're a clear step down from your starters, and your starters can't stay healthy.

Over the past 3 seasons the combination of Derrick Rose, Pau Gasol and Kobe Bryant have missed more than half of the games that their teams have played due to injury.

Pau - 60 - 49 - 65 - 174 / 246 total games (played in 70.7% of the games, missing 29.9%)
Kobe - 6 - 78 - 58 - 142 / 246 total games (played in 57.7% of the games, missing 42.3%)
Rose - 10 - 0 - 39 - 49 / 246 total games (played in 19.9% of the games, missing 80.1%)

Total for those three = 365 / 738 games (played in 49.5% of the games, missing 50.5%)

You simply can't count on Kobe, Pau or D-Rose staying healthy. Meaning that you have to rely more on guys like Jrue Holiday (who can't stay healthy either), Kenavious Caldwell-Pope and Boris Diaw instead. I like my lineup of Teague, Ellis and Faried against those three all day long.

OK got sometime now to do a thorough analysis.. so let me see..

Lebron James/Aaron Gordon >>> Trevor Ariza/Jamal Crawford

Derrick Rose/Jrue Holiday/Kobe Bryant/Caldewell-Pope >> Jeff Teague/Dante Exum/Monta Ellis/Giannis Antekounmpo

Kenneth Faried/Taj Gibson/Greg Monroe/Nerlene Noel = Pau Gasol/Boris Diaw/Marcin Gortat/Al Jefferson

So ... all and all, it's an even matchup...

But - I don't think Ellis has enough 3pt shooting in his team overall. When LeBron James is your best 3pt shooter, that doesn't bode well for the rest of your team, IMO ....

On that basis I think Quin has the edge...

Apparently, having the opportunity to have Lebron is a bad thing in this draft.

I don't mean to dis Ellis, but that team... I don't see it. I feel like QSH is drafting based a lot on name-sake, but it's working in this matchup.

But FWIW, QSH is apparently the only other person in this league that knew that Jrue Holiday exists. Best value in the entire draft. So he'll at least get that trophy.

Ellis and LBJ are the only three point shooters on that team, and they are just average 3 shooters. QSH can just pack it in the paint, and completely discombobulated Ellis's team. All anyone on that team knows is slashing and scoring in the paint. Other then LBJ there is no perimeter game. Ellis really needed to add some shooters to allow room for LBJ to operate. I almost feel like LBJ is competing against both QSH's team and his own teammates in a way, because the lane will be clogged with players on both teams. Lol

So are we looking at this as if these teams were literally drafted this summer directly from their respective teams in exactly the condition and experience level they are in right now, or as if they all would play as they would or did at the prime? Makes a big difference for Kobe Bryant for example as he is far from prime Kobe for the 2014-2015 season.

Yes as they are now.

Not that it matters. At this point, it's pretty clear that my lack of shooting is going to keep me from advancing. In hindsight, I wish I would have put a greater emphasis on shooters. Kept thinking I could get them later and put it off, but the guys I liked always went earlier than I expected them to. Think I might have fared better if I'd just gone with some of the other players that I considered instead of who I ended up picking.

Yah that's the problem with LeBron or Jordan type pick... your next pick is often too far away that it can be difficult to form a competitive team.

You just have to accept the fact that he'll be playing with lesser talents overall.

Yes and no. Trading up cost me my 2nd round pick, but there were still options for me at 32 and 56 that would have been better. Had I focused more on offensively minded players and taken Klay Thompson (#32), Paul Millsap (#53), either Wiggins/ Antetokounmpo (#57) and Isaiah Thomas (#60) I think my team would have fared better. Add a couple of young bigs and a slasher or two to fill out the roster, and I think people might have liked that better than what I actually went with. (Plus that sounds more like a team that I could root for TBH.)

Opportunities were there, but I don't think I had a focused plan when I started and that hurt me in the long run.
