Current roster and payroll?

We have 11 players under contract at the moment, plus 1 QO (Fes) and 1 RFA signed to an Offer Sheet (Matthews). This is our current payroll for cap purposes, including Matthews if we match and Fes if he signs the QO, otherwise he can be replaced by a player up to the quoted figure, which is the maximum MLE:

Well, Mantis, the cap is around $57-58 million, aint it. We now "have" 11 players. Our roster must be at least 13, I think. So if we are over $80 million, right now, "for cap purposes," what does that mean? That we can't sign 2 more, even though we "must?"
 
That list includes Matthews and Fes, which would give us the minimum 13. If we don't sign them, then we still have our MLE and our bi-annual exceptions to use to sign players, or we can sign players to minimum contracts, which vary with the length of service of the player e.g. Evans is at the minimum for Rookies, and Gaines and Jeffers are at the minimum for 1-year vets. A 10+ year veteran would get ~$1.35M.

Taking out Wes and Fes, we have 11 players signed for $73,452,084. If we don't use our exceptions and sign two players to minimum contracts instead , our cap number will be at least $74,399,292 if we add two more rookies, but could be as high as $76,156,446 if we add two 10+ year veterans.

[There is a bit of a financial wrinkle in signing mimimum-salary players. If a player has been in the league 3 or more years and is on a one-year minimum contract, the team pays them as though they are only a two-year vet, and the league picks up the rest of their salary, although it all counts for the cap. This would actually soften the blow of any tax hit, since we would pay twice for the first $854,389 of their salary, once as salary and again on tax, but the rest we pay only once, as tax. So the cost difference between signing a 3-year vet and 10-year vet to a one-year contract at the minimum is their straight salary, it isn't doubled for tax.]

Another possibility for filling the last two roster spots is using our trade exceptions to bring in another player or players, which could really blow our cap number into the stratosphere!

The simple answer to what you axed is that we can still use our axceptions to sign two mo' players, or we could make trades wit' our two trade axceptions to git two mo' players, or we could just go out and sign 'em up to minimum wage contracts until we got enuff players, coz you can always sign players fo' minimum wage, if you ain't got nuthin' else to sign 'em wit'.

I thought signing bonuses up to 25% didn`t count towards the LT? Hoopshype has Millsap at $6,2 for this season and if their list is correct we are a few million under the LT at the moment.

That's funny because I think there's about 1% chance either will be moved by the deadline.

Hoopshype would be correct (assuming that figure is correct) - he's getting *paid* $6.2M this season, but he counts as $8.3M against the cap because of the signing bonus he received when he signed the contract, which was paid up-front but which is distributed over the life of the contract for cap purposes.
