Cyrone Torbin's Thoughts on Off-Season

Good post Cy. Will try to rep. (God knows you need it)

I need to see a lot more from Gobert but really like what I have seen.
I've never been totally in love with Favors (HS, college, or NBA) because I've never seen a fire and I don't think he ever gets it. Yes, occassional sparks.. but that's it.

Gobert's best case is Omer Asik and his realistic case is a poor man's Omer Asik. To say that he might end up being better than Favors or Kanter is simply the biggest joke I have ever heard.

i have the same thoughts

well, maybe this board is overrated ))

I'm going to figure out a way to rep nuke the next person who talks about Kanter's "lifestyle" affecting his tenure with the Jazz. Good God people.

I agree. Kid has a little fun and now he is Hugh Heffner. Jazz are not going to be able to keep all their young guys unless some of them take lower contracts. However it is too earlier to tell which players to keep. The GM that trades away Wiggins will be unemployed pretty fast.

Great post Cyrone. I disagree a little bit on Evans. I see some improvement but believe his body size makes him a SF. And I still don't see any SF skills. I saw him bullied in the paint again in SL, both offensively and defensively. So I'm not sure he has the size and strength to be a rotation PF. We will probably see for sure this year as it looks like he is going to get time.

Here is where I see Kanter or Favors being gone. Let's say next year both Kanter and Favors end up averaging 15-18 pts and 8-10 rebs a game. You have extended Favors already for 4 years 40 million. If Kanter averages 15 and 10, you are going to have to probably extend him close to the max (15 million). So, the Jazz end up with the #5 pick. Jabari will go #3. I could see the Jazz trading Kanter and #5 to get Jabari at #3. This gives you a player that fills a position of extreme need, lets you get rid of a 15 million dollar contract and take back 8 million. You now look like this:

Burke
Hayward/Burks
Jabari
Favors
???/Gobert

I could see that happening, especially considering that you will be getting something back with Jabari (picks, another player, etc). With the new salary cap, very, very good players on rookie deals will become gold. You would essentially be trading a 15 and 10 player (Kanter) and 15 million for a 15 and 7 player who can hit the three for 8 million (1/2 the cost).

I think they'll be able to keep the young guys because Burks will not be making that much. Hayward 10-11 million, Favors 12 million and Kanter 13 is only 36 million and isn't the cap like 58 million? 22 million for the remaining guys should be enough. My guess is that Burks gets 5 million trey burke makes 6 million which would put you at 47 million. wait, wow... haha. the jazz would have to get up to 13 players with 11 million bucks. I guess it could be done if they had some rookie deals, D-Leaguers and were also willing to go over the tax a bit

Burke=6 million
Hayward=11 million
Burks=5 million
Favors=12 million
Kanter=13 million
Neto=2 million
Evans=2 million
D-Leaguer=1 million
D-Leaguer=1 million
Gobert= 7 million
2014 draft pick (Parker)= 4 million
2014 draft pick (GR3, I wish)= 2 million
2015 draft pick (?)=3 million

All equals up to about 69 million but the salary cap should be higher by this point. Unfortunately, we will have to make a trade by the time the 2014 draftees extension comes up. my Gut feeling is that Hayward and Burks would be most expendable. a Core of Kanter, Favors, Jabari Parker/Andrew Wiggins, and Burke would be very formidable.

If you're a 7'2 big man and you are only getting paid 7 million per year, you are way under-performing. Javale McGee gets 10 million per year for sucking, DeAndre Jordan gets 10 million per year for missing a ton of free throws and catching a few alley oops per game.

You simply can't afford 3 7 footers.

Someone will...

Depends on how he does this year.

Right now Hayward has proven himself as a pretty good 3rd option scorer. He is efficient and does a lot on the floor. I would say right now, given his age, his value would be around 9-10 million per year.

I would sign him to an extension at that price for as long as possible right now. He could drop his value if his efficiency drops as a top option (or 1B option) then I could see his value going down, but it also has a chance of going up if he succeeds and maintains efficiency.

Not to mention Brendan Haywood with a 6 year 55 million dollar deal

I wouldn't pay Hayward $11MM.

Once you start talking about paying a player $10MM+, they need to at least be capable of being the 3rd best player on a championship caliber team. I think Hayward could be that.

Who is cyrone torbin?

Other than that, nice post. Decent analysis.

I do think in the long run Burke will be better than most people think, although I doubt we have found our next Stockton. But stranger things have happened.

Like did you hear that Chris Andersen got a tattoo? Whoa!
