DA/JZ Press Conference

Cavs ****ed up our tank by giving us too many good players. Not a problem, but I don't think we're finishing in the bottom 4 this year, gang. At this point I'm predicting getting close to a 10th seed, but ending at 11.

The potential 'problem' is there are too many weak/mediocre teams in the western conference right now. Spurs, OKC, Rockets, Jazz should all have down years. Teams like the Kings, Lakers, Blazers could be very mediocre. They could potentially win multiple games against all these teams. There were 6 teams that won 34 or less games in the WC last year and now we can add the Jazz to that list.

The EC only had 3 'bad' teams last season in Detroit, Orlando, and Indiana. Both the Pistons and the Magic could be improved this season though.

Maybe Jazz end up with the 7th or 8th worst record next season but Hardy can't tell the kids not to play hard. Some teams such as OKC with SGA and the Rockets who have already had two top 3 picks really need to start showing some improvement at some point though.

There's a few things to consider here.

• OKC may actually look to add talent to keep SGA happy. They are in year three or four of their rebuild and Shai may be getting antsy to do something worth while. Presti's done an admirable job gaining assets, but that needs to turn into something tangible. Patience only goes so far. Even without Chet, they should still be better than Utah on paper.
• When Ainge is done trading, Orlando, Detroit, Indy should be better than Utah on paper.
• Houston should enter the Sacto level of suckage, which would be a welcome step up. The Lakers and Blazers will finish with more wins than Utah.

I really only see San Antonio as our primary competition in the #WeakforWembanyama and #SuckforScoot Sweepstakes.

Houston and OKC didn’t have near as many good players to start with as we do. OKC has Shai but they are blatantly tanking by having him sit on the bench, etc. They drafted Giddey who is great but he wasn’t a difference maker year 1. Now Chet is out for the rest of the year. Houston had no talent besides Wood who they just traded for a 1st. They drafted Green and Jabari. We are starting with good players.

Besides the vets we’ll likely trade, who is a winning player right now? Lauri, Beasley, and Vando as role players? Sexton has never been a winning player. That’s about it and we might end up trading those players anyways. The Jazz would need massive improvement from 1-2 players into high caliber starters, several players develop into rotation players, and also draft a rookie who is both good and good at winning now.

Many rookies and young players are “good” and they still won’t help you win. You can often count the number of rookies who have a clear positive winning impact with one hand.

It’s also kind of funny to think that the Jazz won’t do this blatant tanking stuff….they already are. If you’re buying into the 1-2 year rebuild thing, you are a fool. I understand the people who are in it for the long haul and can live with the time it will take….but it will take a miracle to be a 1-2 year rebuild and you shouldn’t put your hopes into that. 3-4 years is what it will take if we do things well.

Well said. 1-2 year rebuilds dont happen unless you get really lucky and are the exception to the norm. Hope we get very lucky.

If we’re in it for the long haul….I get it. Reasonable option, but we’re talking about a very lengthy process. But if we decided to tank under the impression that it’s going to take 1-2 years we’re idiots. Banking on a miracle.

Dont think Rubio would have changed much.

Donovan changed and became a diva, it was going to happen regardless.
I was just thinking about how much fun that team was. No expectations, a ton of fire, loads of chips on shoulders. A band of brothers going through hell.

Ricky was, in many ways, the ideal PG for the Jazz. Smart with the ball, good decisions and defense. Just his shot was never consistently hot. Had he had that, we just needed a reliable stretch 4/5 to space open for Ricky, Don, and Rudy to work.

Ah well, woulda, coulda, shoulda.

If Ricky ever developed a reliable 3 point shot...
It really is. Chemistry more than talent. Still why we should have kept Rudy and tried to build around him

What was the point of this press conference? They just get everyone together to talk last year and short-term future plans? Sounds like a message to trade partners that Utah won’t pull the trigger unless they really like the deal.

Just a State of The Union kind of thing. Training camp is about to start, a lot of the Jazz players are currently in town practicing together.

Lol the jazz have done this twice for sure maybe three times. Lol

So, what the hell happened between having the best record to only being a 6th seed? You don’t get the best record by having a dysfunctional roster.

We’re going to learn the hard way how unique Rudy Gobert was. Hayward and Mitchell don’t grow on trees either….it may seem that way but we were spoiled.

Also….the Jazz quick rebuilds were not remotely close to this situation.

I remember this teams chemistry used to be amazing. Donovan always with the water bottle and even on the benches they liked each other.

Last year it just seemed like they hated being around each other. It all stems from Donovan and Rudy being immature imo.
