What's new

Dallas trading Luka to the Lakers for Anthony Davis! Utah involved.

Also its sort of baffling how much money this trade will cost Luka.

He is no longer supermax eligible since he has been traded after his rookie contract AND he moves from zero tax state to the highest(?) tax state in the US (I read somewhere they got 13.3% state tax?).

I kind of get a his trade for the Mavs, but how do you not get all first round picks from the Lakers?

Actually think the Mavs could come out looking like geniuses. They could win a ring. They make a move for Sexton as a bench scorer with that Lakers pick? Hypothetically they are built to be a foil to the Thunder with their front line of Gafford/AD/Washington. They got picks to make a move for another scorer. Not sure what salary they have to match. Could they get Butler/LaVine?

The Lakers on the other hand.....

I think this kind of sucks for them. They are worse this year. Yeah, they have Luka, but absolutely nothing else. The West is too good. Maybe they figure out how to get a UFA there to pair with Luka(probably will) but if they miscalculate on who that player is, they are ****ed.

The Celtics/Mavs series was kind of eye opening Luka is never going to win a ring if he isn't committed to being in elite shape because of how bad he is on defense. If he's really getting fat af then that is reason to trade him. And I get wanting to go with a win now piece for the team you built, but damn, get all the picks so you hamstring any ability they have to build around Luka.

If he has issues staying focused and not partying in Dallas, LA is going to be a struggle

I don't see any way this isn't stupid from Dallas. Take a couple days and shop him. At the very least you get more from Lakers if AD is your target. So many teams would have thrown everything for him.
In terms of win now top 10 player they got the best player possibly available.

Feel like the Lakers have to trade LeBron for whatever future assets package you can get. They should lose a lot of games now. Atalanta should be happy. They might get a lottery pick from this trade.

Also, Max Christie has actually been a solid role player for the Lakers the last couple of months. It's not a nothing addition. He's been very good defensively for the Lakers.

Anyone remember that five team deal back in the day where we got Ostertag? Yeah, good times.

This is an absolutely crazy deal, but we're re-stocking our 2nds I guess. Also, guessing the Lakers are saying eff that defense.
