What's new

Dallas trading Luka to the Lakers for Anthony Davis! Utah involved.

Honestly, the freebies we got is either some cash considerations (which still is a GM job, so okay I guess) or the new Ante Tomic and a guard that been a complete bust so far. Honestly, I believe that a "It's better Luka ends up in the Lakers than along Wemby or Shai with 10+ frp in the same conference we're rebuilding for" is the only reasoning I can come up with to not opt with to "lets help such a heist"
Acting like the deal doesnt go down if we dont grab the freebies is naive. Also assuming DA even knew who was being traded is very questionnable.

Rob Pelinka and Danny Ainge obviously have a good working relationship, which is why Rob probably called Danny and asked whether he wants to facilitate a deal they are trying to make by taking on JHS with some picks. I doubt he disclosed the entire deal to DA.

I think its fair to assume a deal like this doesnt happen because a GM just has an idea on how to improve the roster and then goes and executes it. Giving away a 25 year old MVP caliber talent is obviously either a long and painful discussion involving the owners among others, or then its a top down order (as this article suggests).

Either way, I'm 100% convinced Adelsons were aware this was going to happen.

Its obvious that this move was always going to have negative marketing impact on the franchise. So if they dont care about basketball success that much and are just in the business of making money, I find it hard to see how this trade increases the money they make off the franchise. From that perspective that casino conspiracy makes sense.

So luka is now just eligible for $229 mil extension instead of $345 mil supermax in dallas. How much tax in California?
12.3+1% over a million for mental health vs 0% in Texas. A key reason I left CA.

Keep in mind NBA players pay tax anywhere they play away games and get a credit in their home state CA will tax all of his income now). So Luka paid 0% state income tax for every home game and a variable rate for away games. He may make it up in sponsorships.
