Its 60M the last two years of the deal... which is a lot... but the cap is like 180M plus at that point. So its like 45M-ish in current cap perspective.

It would be baked into the acquisition price (or sure as hell should be) so you are giving up less hopefully.

the backend of the deal is what I think would end up making the price for Dame being lower than some might think... who knows though... price could still be prohibitive.

Guys that can shoot the piss out of the ball tend to age better... I am really curious what Dame's post prime looks like.

I think we could find some budget 3 and D types. I'd aim for DFS rather than a guy like OG.

To be clear I don't think this for sure happens... I could see scenarios where it becomes real because price and other things line up.

Thing is, he doesnt shoot the piss out of the ball. He is a good shotter but not great imo. I consider 40% from three to be the benchmark of a great shooter. In his 11 seasons he has made 40% from three just once when he shot 40.1% from three. Steph has 12 season over 40% from three for a comparison.
Last year he shot 32% from three for the season. What if we were paying him 60 miliion per year and he had lost a step and was shooting 32% from three? Ouch that would suck.

Its just too much money imo. We would be back to having that 2nd round of the playoffs ceiling again (dame rarely goes deep in the playoffs)

Honestly, you could just give Portland the remaining part of the Cleveland package minus Lauri and they would consider it. Trading Donovan for Lauri and Lillard is an all timer, no?
Its not bad... I'd attempt to give back less than the Cleveland package though.

60 million EACH of the last two years right? So 120 milliom for tose last two years correct?
If thats true (its hard to believe its even true) then that is insane.

He is an all-time great shooter... the rest of your post I don't have a problem with. He shoots a ton of threes and defenses are designed to stop him from shooting a ton of threes so his attempts are some of the hardest in the league. Straight three point percentage is not a great measure.

If Lauri gets a max deal he will be making like 50M a year... it is bonkers but players are about to get a raise with the new CBA and TV deal.

Agreed but lauri isnt in his thirties, 50 is less than 60 and lauri is 7 feet tall and way more efficient and versatile and better defensively.

Give me lauri at 50 per over dame at 60 per all day.

And again I would only do it if the price was like Sexton, some expiring salary, and like 3 firsts - 2025 cavs pick, Lakers pick, and one other Minny/Cavs pick. By today's prices for a star that is super light... so may not get it done unless Dame puts some real pressure on Portland and they are worried about getting stuck with a bad contract.

Wasn't painting and either or type of thing... just some perspective.

I do get it though... I would be nervous to acquire Dame... but as far as the next "stars" that become available I don't see us doing better than Dame. We very well may just take the super long term view and pass on all guys in that age range.

GOD NO! Please don't even start this conversation. You don't trade for a 33yr old guard that is about to have the biggest contract in nba history. Add in what we would have to give up to actually get him and it would become an all time bad trade.

Yes if we have the cap space to give out less in a trade AND if the salary cap explodes AND we can keep the Minny picks.
