What's new

Dante Exum is back and bigger. Already.

https://www.sltrib.com/sports/2566740-155/utah-jazz-exums-improvement-could-be

Mentions his offseason plans:
P3 for strength and conditioning
Daily workouts at Jazz practice facilities for shooting and body conditioning
Both Summer leagues
Australian National Team

Seems like his praised work ethic is true. Good, work hard Dante and come back ready to turn heads.

I wonder if he any sessions scheduled with a sports psychologist? I think we can all agree that Mr. Exum's biggest glaring weakness is his mental attitude.

Jingles will stick. He's buds with our other hopeful star player, won't cost much, likes it here and played out of his mind for a late pick up off waivers. He's our glue guy moving forward. He was the guy who stepped up the team chemistry factor once Novak was traded. Don't underestimate his value. Hoping like hell that he does the junior Jazz stuff this next year. Kids won't even be able to understand him and I'm sure he'll drop a few F bombs.

From your typing fingers to the Jazz front office!!!!

Ya I'm sure I'm too hard on Dante. Last year I thought he was like a poor mans rubio.
Next year I hope he can be a middle class rubio.

I just don't value perimeter players that are only effective on the defensive end. I have never been a big fan of Tony Allen, matt barnes, elijah millsap types. Im fine with bigs who are only effective on defense (Ben Wallace, eaton, deandre, gobert, etc) but I think perimeter players need to be better offensively before I value them much

You been watching Delly?

True, but apparently I'm not the only who felt that way. I don't think teams were trying too hard to aquire delly and I doubt he is ever going to be earning big bucks

Championship teams don't need all starters to be 15 mill/yr players. Just saying that defensive specialist guards DO have their place in championship teams. They aren't useless, as last night showed.

Gobert
Hayward
Favors
Hood
Burks
Exum
Booker
Ingles
Burke
Millsap
Evans

I expect big improvement from Gobert, Hood and Exum.

Be careful Dante the wolves are circling. If he struggles next year(and he undoubtably will to some degree) the fans will throw Dante into the pit of no return. Trey Burke is currently in that pit alone shaking from the cold.

Though I don't think I said Tony Allen types are worthless.... I think I said that defensive only bigs > defense only wings. (I might be wrong on that too. I admit my bias in this matter)

Stated correctly. Jazz fans are their own worst enemies and suffer from the "immediacy conundrum."

I do not agree that Exum's mental attitude is a glaring weakness. I think he was physically overmatched. A stronger Dante will play more to your liking. That said, there's no reason not to see a good sports psychologist no matter how confident you already are.

the trouble with Tony Allen types is when they are a complete offensive liability .. would you be happy with tony allen taking 2 free throws to win a finals game ?? Big difference between an awesome defensive guard who is inept offensively and one who is even average/adequate offensively.

I agree. My original point was that I gave dante such a low grade because he is mostly inept offensively even though he is good defensively.

So I was saying that wing players that are good defenders but poor offensively don't impress me much.

Where as with bigs I have no problem with those players (Tyson Chandler, Ben Wallace, gobert, etc)

There are some pictures of Dante floating on twitter, he seems like he's gained some weight in a good way:

Or maybe the eye test is not very reliable... I don't know...
