Chris Paul separated his shoulder and missed 6 weeks without surgery. I believe he had a Type III separation which included some ligament damage according to the internet.
Hopefully it's this type...

Apparently all i have to do is give some website my credit card details and there is a single mum two blocks away with dangerously low standards.
i feel so bad for this kid (Dante, not the single mum's) I was really looking forward to watching him this year, things were so positive for him after last years all star break. This is so ****.

Seems the Woj report might be a bit pessimistic.
In any case, I am in shock like everyone else and still trying to process how this happened, why Dante has had all this bad luck. I'm not disrespecting Dante and I wish him a speedy recovery, but it seems to me, and I may be wrong that Dante's susceptibility to injury may in part be due to the construction of his frame and the fact that he is a late bloomer who is still growing into his body.
First of all he has abnormally long limbs and his lankiness is not only an asset to his abilities on defense and get past people off the dribble but possibly a liability when enduring the grind and physicality of the NBA. For instance, a guy like Mitchell or John Stockton whose center of gravity is more compact can sustain contact better. Stockton was incredibly durable. Guys who are super athletic like a Derrick Rose or Alec Burks are more susceptible to injury because their acrobatic moves also lead to more pressure on their body when they fall or are hit. I would put Dante in that category, and Dante is not as strong as either of them.
Of course, this is only a theory and I'm not a doctor, PT, or sports medicine guy. Let's hope he has the resilience to come back. I think as he matures and gets stronger, the injuries will be less likely. He is still young. At least it wasn't his ACL. Note, that when Locke talked to him during media day about his weight training he said he was concentrating on his ACL, not his upper body. I guess things are still uncertain about possible surgery. Let's hope for the best.
