Dante Exum: shoulder injury

How is it delusional to say he's injury prone.... when he actually is? He's 22 with soon to be 3 season long injuries. I'd love to hear what you or who you consider injury prone if he isn't.

I remember when Alec was having his shoulder problems and we heard that he's taking "second opinion" from doctors across the country. It didn't end up well... several days later he had his surgery and missed the whole season. I wonder if Dante's contract status will have any effect on what he decides to do. From what I read, it seems like surgery gives you the best long-term prognosis, but will likely have him miss the entire season, while non-surgical rehabilitation might get him in play shape sooner but will increase the chances of re-injury in the future. If the Jazz and him agree to an extension it's probably best for both parties for him to get the surgery. If not - Dante will probably want to play this season and show he's worth a new contract in the summer.

There are lots of examples of guys not having surgery on shoulders and knees and coming back and being fine. Surgery will always be pushed as the best option though. Really depends on the serverity of the ligament damage if its not a complete tear your body is capable of healing on its own.

There are lots of examples of guys not having surgery on shoulders and knees and coming back and being fine. Surgery will always be pushed as the best option though. Really depends on the serverity of the ligament damage if its not a complete tear your body is capable of healing on its own.

surgery is the best option. we've seen players come back from shoulder injuries too early and they aren't the same.

yes it blows he out another year. i think he explodes with Mitchell this year if healthy.
the positives are he is still a kid, put in the hard work, and will be back next year.
lets give him a reasonable sum, and not lose the fruits of the labor (by us or him).

we arent in a position to let talent go. with Dante's upside i still want to benefit from
our #5 overall draft pick.

dante get the surgery, and come back strong next year. you're still a kid, and have a long future ahead of you.

Agree. We're not going to win the title this year. Need to think of the long term. If he's not 100 percent and he comes back, he risks further injury.

If it was possible Id rehab and play, be back by Allstar and look to get surgery in the offseason if needed.

Really good point. Surgery has its own drawbacks. It's not a magic bullet for ensuring there are no future problems.

All I know is that when you have a dream and your path is blocked, it is not easy and can be painful, and some people never overcome the obstacles. As to say his injury is not career-ending, I think you fail to realize that it is troubling. It is the second major injury in Dante's short career. It could be a sign that he will not endure in the NBA. Injuries take their toll. Look at AK47. What many don't realize is the series of many small injuries he had that gradually affected him and short-changed his career. By the time of his retirement, he was only the shell of his former athletic self. It's easy to criticize someone, but if you have not had similar experiences, it's not fair to judge.

Im sure in some cases this is, and has been a legitimate option. If that's true here, sure we do it. I think there is a very small chance for this, but I would love it.
