Game Thread Dec 17, 2021 07:00PM MT: Jazz vs. Spurs

Added to Calendar: 12-17-21

The part of the game that pissed me off the most besides the final play (when ingles was wide open and mitchell should have passed it to him instead of rushing a shot that didn't need to be rushed that much) was a 3 possession stretch in the middle of the 4th when donovan went one on one with no passing at all and missed at the rim, then the next possession clarkson went one on one with no passing at all and missed at the rim, and then the next possession bogey went one on one with no passing and missed at the rim. So frustrating.
Even more frustrating was how many extremely difficult extremely contested 2 point buckets the spurs made.
That's what the Jazz do in the clutch. Revert to hero ball.

And spoiler warning: Heartbreaking losses like this are going to keep coming as long as it remains unfixed.

It really feels like if the Jazz get into a close game, the only way they win is if the other team collapses.

Harped on this forever…

1. Lack of focus and mental collapses.
2. Can’t prevent anyone with average or above quickness from getting to their spots.
3. Struggle significantly in close games.

Don’t have one guy you can throw out on those kind of players to slow them down. Not one.
I was also laughing… why was Mike on Murray? He’s big they are going to go through him… why not Royce… then they made the switch. He still made everything but it got harder.

Rudy has to get that rebound when they finally did miss and just once I think we need to blitz the pick and roll when they are making everything. Just make them do something else.

Now in our vain efforts to get the 1/2 seed we will play Mike again on the back end of a back to back… because he does yoga once a week so he’s fine now… nothing to manage.

If we can't D up a mediocre Spurs team for 8 minutes, well rested, at home, we definitely have a problem.
I saw plenty of d'ing up. Often times great offense (or lucky offense) beats great defense. Case in point spurs final basket. Rudy defended as good as he ever has and dude made the toughest shot of his life.

And also cleared him out with his off hand.

What a stupid play call. Snyder has to be one of the worst out of timeout coaches.

This. Horrible play. they acted like they had .7 seconds left instead of over 2 seconds. Having said that if donovan makes a 5 foot pass to wide open ingles I like our chances of us having won at the buzzer. Quin cant make the pass for donovan however.

I wish Quin would use Donovan as a decoy on the final play sometimes. Everyone and their Grandma knows the ball is going to Donovan. If we went to Mike or Bogey we could get a better, more open look. Also Joe was absolutely wide open if Don just would've passed it back to him after he inbounded instead of trying to be the hero.

Not sure if that was a terrible play design or terrible execution but Donovan had zero shot of making that.
Wonder what would have happened if Donovan pump faked and got a guy in the air. those spurs dudes were coming and contesting hard. I bet at least one would have went into the air and donovan could have had some free throws. Hindsight tho

Yea that was a terrible play call. The spurs new he was going to shoot it.
I was hoping they would try to get bogey a look from three but knew for certain donovan was going to jack up some prayer.
