Deep packet Inspection

so the world goverments plan to do deep packet inspection on every single internet user.
probably already done on some level.

what do you guys think.

i woulld kick my postmans arse for opening up my mail and reading every single line.

so why arent we kicking the goverments arse.
you americans should join minute men or some other anti goverment groups for DPI

I might stop going to the airport altogether.

Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) (also called complete packet inspection and Information eXtraction - IX -) is a form of computer network packet filtering that examines the data part (and possibly also the header) of a packet as it passes an inspection point, searching for protocol non-compliance, viruses, spam, intrusions or predefined criteria to decide if the packet can pass or if it needs to be routed to a different destination, or for the purpose of collecting statistical information. There are multiple headers for IP packets, network equipment only needs to use the first of these (the IP header) for normal operation, but use of the second header (TCP, UDP etc.) is normally considered to be shallow packet inspection (usually called Stateful Packet Inspection) despite this definition

FWIW I think this is another example of attempting to regulate something that in the end cannot really be regulated. It is a beginning of invasions of privacy on a grand scale and really puts the security of the internet on very shaky ground. How long until some corrupt official in Hungary or whatever, who is checking every packet you send, gets your credit card and personal information from a transaction that should have been secure and starts selling said information to the highest bidder. That is a huge threat right now, anything like this will just take that threat to a whole other level, imo. I think the government, any government, needs to stay out of the internet monitoring business. Sure, go after the blatant, get a task force to take down child porn rings and the like, but stay out of monitoring every single packet sent. Lots of harm has been done in the name of doing what is "best" for people.

Credit cards as we know them will be a thing of the past soon. NFC is going to be everywhere soon.

I agree though, deep packet inspection should be a concern for everyone. Savetheinternet.com has lots of ways you can get involved if anyone wants to actually do something about it.

By the way, deep packet inspection is already widely implemented in the USA, and it has nothing to do with child porn. It was implemented under the premise that ISP's have to fight illegal file sharing under the DMCA. Comcast was the first known ISP to implement it a few years ago. The FCC actually penalized them for it (Comcast had been lying about not doing it, and someone proved they were doing it). Comcast then admitted they had been doing it, sued to have the FCC decision overturned, and won the suit.
