Dennis Erickson hired as Utah Utes Co-Offensive Coordinator

I like this hire for a lot of reasons.

1. He's a master of the spread.
2. BJ needs mentoring. Last year was too much for him, even if we did average 27 points per game.
3. He's not head coach and will be restrained by KW's moral structure.
4. How many teams out there can say they have a guy on the offensive coaching staff that's won 2 national championships?

I think it's certainly a step down from South Albany High School for him to take this job..... But to each their own...

No seriously, it looks like a good hire. I don't know that he'll be great in that mentoring role, but I think it's safe to assume he'll be the real OC calling the plays, no? And that's an upgrade in and of itself. Unless he's just too crazy and too old now, which he may be.

Don't know if the hire will work out or not, but I at least like the idea of KW being proactive offensively. Also like that he brought in a complete outsider.

I think anyone who considers themself a Ute fan has to absolutely love this hire.

It's been no secret that the offense has been a huge problem the last few years. The defense has been really good, but the offense has been brutal.

I expect that we'll see some pretty big improvements in the offense next season.

Now Utah has a proven offensive guru running the offense. Outstanding. Plus it's another experienced Pac 12 recruiter. Another plus.

It's good. Worst case scenario it doesn't work but Utes show they are proactive and will think outside the box or whatever you want to call it. So even if it fails it's good. But I don't think it will fail. I mean comon it can't get worse.

We could've crawled back to the failed OC we ran out of town a couple years ago...

Why co-offensive coordinators? Do they take turns calling plays? I don't recall seeing a team with 2 offensive coordinators. Why not just fire or re-assign Brian Johnson?

This is a very good signing for the Utah. He could help with recruiting, mentoring BJ (he needs it), and play-calling. Maybe he's way past his prime but it's a signing you have to be happy with for now.
