What's new

Dennis Schröder is not attending the 2013 NBA Draft

LOL.. actually if we did manage to draft him, you could probably go see his mom and stuff and get a haircut from her!!! LOL.. that would be cool!!!

Just the thought of having him in our team this time tomorrow is making me giddy!!

If we get him I'm going up there as soon as I find out what their salon name is.
I bet they'd be cool. I doubt they get many Americans in there. No more bases in that area

Well in that area afaik there were never American bases, as it was British... And that would be a hell of a drive up there from your place. The hairdresser shop is called "Afro Star". I think its not that unlikely to meet an American there ;)

Good call. I didn't realize it was so far north.

Wouldn't it be about 3 hours?

I'm sure they can give you an "Afro" there Rev, why don't you give it a go?

OH so none of this family could come? Ok that makes it sound a bit better. Also the Nowitzki thing kinda makes it better too. The trade thing too.

I'm cool with this.

It's not exactly stated that no one could come. Just that the family lacked visas. I don't know what exactly the purpose of an immediate press conference would be other than the team looking for an opportunity to kill time.
I mean when Noel steps in front of the cameras after being selected #1, he's going to be like:
"Hey guys im Nerlens Noel, #1 pick for the Cleveland Cavaliers, who just granted me some payment in advance. I hereby announce the upcoming Nerlens Noel FlatTop only Barber chain. Furthermore I signed a Pepsi endorsement deal and I'm going to co-star in the next Uncle Drew commercial next to my idol Kyrie. With my rookie deal I can now finally move the implants from my lips to my hips, to improve my dominance in the paint."

A young unknown German is not exactly an endorsement magnet I suppose, who can take advantage of the situation. So I think he's smart to wait for July 1st when trades are going down and get it going when summer league kicks off. After that he'll be in the states all the time anyways with Trainings camp, individual workout after summerleague ... Plenty of exposure and get to know background interviews for local media.

Yeah I know, I guess it's just another piece of evidence in that "rebellious against authority" basket... you know what I mean? If everyone else can make it, why can't you?

I know it's a different situation but do you remember when Jennings didn't get a green room invite and decided to watch it from his Hotel room, only to appear later on for interviews when he was picked by the Bucks..

======================================

Still, as I said, I don't think it's a big deal ... I still like his game. I think he's the kind of guy who doesn't care about anything else except competing on the court. It's a double edged sword at times, but if he can "buy in" to the Jazz culture, I think that's the best we could hope for.

If Lindsey decides to take him, he must already have a plan in mind as to how to "nurture" Schroeder and groom him to become a man...

As I've said before...

I remember Jennings. I was really interested in that draft, as he was pioneering in "I don't go to college and play pro ball overseas". I think the fundamental difference is, that Jennings was a highly anticipated highschool standout with swagger(He had a fancy haircut back then) and an endorsement deal with Adidas when he left for Italy. So he had responsibility to appear.
Dennis on the other hand (right now I think Celtics gonna take him) will meet a media landscape he's not used to and who are not very familiar with him. Media likes to twist quotes at times. And imagine a German who's not that advanced at English and doing Interviews getting misquoted to make a better story at cost of his public image.
Think of a Boston TV station asking him things about Boston and Rondo? He has absolutely no chance. If he's honest he would tell you that he hopes to learn from Rondo until he regains value and Ainge ships him away for Draftpicks, expiring contracts and talent. Similar with Milwaukee just that no one cares about them. If he getts into a situation where it's shifting from failed contention to rebuild, it's normal he's being asked things about the franchises future. Only valid answer he can give is: I'm a player, not Danny Ainge. He makes these kind of decision. I'm excited to be here with Rondo.
I still think there will be a local TV station doing a quick skype convo maybe where he wears his team's cap and jersey and tells he's excited and will come over with his family the following days and is looking forward for his opportunity.
I just don't see the benefit he can have as he's no Kentucky superstar. But I understand your point that everyone else's doing it and he should adapt. I'm just seeing everyone else making profit out of that appearance, which I can't see for Dennis. I also think it's a nice goodbye from his friends at home.

Btw: If Rev is going to get a haircut at "AfroStar", I vote for an orange spot
