Derrick Favors: I'm playing on one leg

Even if Favors was healthy his numbers wouldn't be as good as last year's (unless he just takes a huge jump with his shooting). Rudy has surpassed him in the offense as a rim threat. I dont equate his numbers with him getting healthier. More so I equate his defensive impact to his level of health.

I don't think he would have had a huge drop. Maybe a decline in rebound rate, but his mid range game was so good, that it would have only made Rudy look better with more space to operate in. He has even hit a couple threes this year. He was finishing really well in the restricted area last year as well, and he hasn't been doing that this year. He may have gotten less opportunities, but his efficiency should be better when healthy.

I agree with this. He's moved much better recently... it was the getting beat on gettable rebounds and not affecting opposing drivers that was more troubling. His shot was good for a little while a year or two ago but its always been suspect to me.

I still think we'd be better with a player who is not as good as Favors but fits better. I think if we had a guy like Covington at the four we'd be able to spread guys out and might even be better defensively.

We have been good with the limpy version of Favors and I'm not sure how much more the healthy version of Favors does for us. The healthy version of Favors also will cost a ton. I think if Favs finishes the season with relative health he could fetch a decent asset on the trade market... won't be amazing, but a team with cap space could renegotiate and extend him. Phoenix and Denver would be good candidates there.

Hayward fits any system really, Hood is pretty flexible too, Rudy is the semi-awkward offensive piece (he's great but not as flexible). Fitting with him is what I would let dictate how we build long term at that position.

He has one year left on a great contract, much like Hill did. So I would say best case 12-16 for a team that needs a center. With this being a strong draft though it could be lower than that.

What would you give up for him if he was not a Jazz player and you wanted to acquire him... is it the mid round pick?

I would argue a couple differences on his value vs. Hill's he is younger and did produce at a higher level than George did. Probably would lose some points because he doesn't fit in as many situations.

Even while gimpy Favors is having his best career shooting year outside of the paint. The Gobert/Favors 2 man lineup is also the best defensive 2 man lineup in the NBA.

Keeping Hayward/Hill and having Favors 100% healthy is probably our best chance at improving our record from this year to next.

I would start Lyles and shut down Favors. The kid played great as a starter last year, and needs consistent minutes. I get that he's looked terrible lately, but I feel like that's more because he's young and needs a consistent role to play well.

I think part of the worry in shutting down favors would be reduced trade value... managing the injury the way they are seems to give little thought to the long term. No doctor, not a trainer, just think there would have to be some long term effects to playing on this or any injury. If it is significant enough to slow him down wouldn't playing on it have some potential for long term issues. If sitting out helps it heal and the guy was in your long term plans wouldn't you tell him to just shut it down.

Already when I talk to other Jazz fans they question his heart, his motivation, they believe he doesn't care about winning or competing. If the team shut him down for the season fans would just assume he was a lazy POS.

You know what? Who gives a **** what a bunch of Jazz fans think. I would shut him down and put his health above anything else. I don't care if it's a chronic problem, either. His career is more important than ****ing fanaticism.
